Speedymoto Top Triple Install Issue

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of installing the Speedymoto top triple on my M796.  The stock top triple is off.  Now my problem is installing the headlight brackets.  My top triple came with roll pins in what I assume to be threaded holes for the stock bolts and vibration dampers to go into.  Do I need to remove the roll pins for the install or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Yes, you need to remove the roll pins.

I just did this install a few weeks back and had to buy a pair of 5x20mm bolts.   After removing the rolls pins I used the 5mm bolts and some loctite to mount up the headlight brackets.   I also had to grind down a hex key to tighten the center bolt by the steering nut.   Only way I could get at it,  even after tearing the tank and key guard off.

If you back off the steering stops its possible to turn far enough to get access to the bolt near the steering head.

how did you remove the pins? just yank them out with pliers?

I clamped the pins one at a time in a bench vice and pulled on the triple. They came out without much effort.

Thats what I did.  Vise grips I think actually..

I also ran a tap from the top down through the holes to chase the threads into the roll pin section of the holes.  I feel like I had hardware left from removing the old triple that I was able to use to secure the new stuff...I dont recall having to buy any bolts.  (I did the swap at a friends house and I know I didnt have to make any special trips out...)

I tried to remove the roll pins with vice grips yesterday, no success. Tried pin punches with a hammer too. I'll give a bench vice a shot tonight. Hopefully the pins come off!

i tried the vice grip method and it didn't work for me either... i used a punch from the top (making sure not to hit the thread by shining a light inside to see where the edge of pins were) and smashed it with a hammer numerous times and it finally came out.. if you hit the thread you can always re-tap it.

I used this method too.  Roll pins came out quite easily.
