Most folks in this Country don't watch wrestling, never have and never will. It's the most pure form of sport period. Hopefully they'll see the light.

But we still fill the stadiums to watch steroid-infused circus clowns carry on with the WWE Raw nonsense

and their ratings on cable must be good

Like most I heard this yesterday and wondered WTF the IOC is doing. It's one of the original Olympic sports and pretty much every country has some traditional national form, if not multiple. I think it's a poor choice to drop. If you want to take out a sport to make way for others, ok. But there's much better targets IMO. Dressage - while skillful requires a shit ton of money and (duh) horses. Lots of coutries don't/cant compete there. BMX? Wakeboard? Hello, trying to be X-games...

Feh. Disappointed IOC

while I can understand the IOC's will to address modern trends in terms of sports and athleticism....the trend of moving much younger "X Games" style sports in is tragic IMHO...while it isn't the most popular...there are some sports that by the bounds of tradition, should never be touched...wrestling IMHO is 1 of them and it happens that this one also does in fact have a major following in most of the attending/competing countries...while it will never reach the popularity of say "soccer/futball" on the telly...that doesn't mean people don't want to see it or represent their country doing it....and I agree on Dressage....there are some sporting events that are just ridiculous...

I could only see this making sense if they replaced wrestling with another ancient time-honored sport like "Sheep Groping"

Indeed!  Rubbish, I say!  Please oblige me to identify the imbecilic fool who proceeded upon the supposition that the grand unarmed combat of wrestling in the greco roman style would not be included in the most venerable Olympic Games?

Oh, how I do wish for us to return one day to the grand days of yore when only true manly feats of strength, agility, and ability are included in the Olympic Games.

When will these loggerheaded, hasty-witted joitheads return real sports back to The Games?  Sports like Tug of war, Croquet (and it's bastard American cousin Roque), and the ever grand sport of Basque pelota?

So called International Olympic Committee, I early await your reply, post haste, forthwith, and with all due endeavor!  Until that time I say Good Day to you!  Good day!

My fast lap is your sighting lap.

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Well, unlike in the original Olympic games, they do wear singlets instead of a coating of olive oil. Fortunately.

I do think it's a pretty short-sighted move by the IOC; in my understanding, tradition is a significant if not the most significant component of the Olympic brand. They start tossing that overboard to make more room for X-games events, they best start getting ready to fold up the tents when participants and viewers choose the real X-games over the imitation.
By hammer and hand all arts do stand.

Sorry.  No mention of using the spider to take a mulligan.  As far as we know, the spider watched the rest of the round sharing a frozen yogurt with Ms. Muffet.  Doesn't count.
