As the title implies. Talk about cars.

My new to me ML 320

The wife likes it.

Some say that ML stands for monsterlover, all we know is...the stig is nowhere around.

Monsterlover

Its true. ML does stand for Monsterlover.

Ducati is the pretty girl that can't walk in heels without stumbling. I still love her.

OK, since this is Car Talk, I have a question. My girl has a 2013 Jeep Patriot (2.4l, CVT, 4x4) with 9000 miles that has either a gas cap light or the CEL (or both at times) that continues to come on. Taking into the local dealer, they have said "oh, you must not have put the gas cap on all the way". Well, it now has happened several times with both of us filling the tank and replacing the cap. Anyone heard of this?

pick up an OBD 2 scanner and double check if that is indeed the code, they're cheap. I think the one I picked up at Harbor Freight was something like $40.
If it is just that maybe there's a loose connection somewhere or something? Not an item I've had to chase down myself yet on anything so I'm not sure what exactly to look for.

I don't trust any of these service departments anymore.
I also have the Ross Tech cable and software for VW/Audi stuff and have confirmed for a coworker that his dealership was giving him the run around regarding a CEL on his A4. In his case, that software allows me to print out a report of how often the CEL was triggered and why, forcing them to replace his O2 sensor that prior to that they were claiming was not the issue.

The first time it came up it was just the CEL. Took it in and they said it was an evap system code and said likely the cap wasn't on right. Since then it has popped up as either the gas cap light or the CEL or both 3 more times. The gas cap can only go on so much before it clicks and we both make sure it clicks every time so I'm not sure what the issue is.

What is the ross tech cable?
like Vagcom
The software is a free download but doesn't work without the $300 cable with the license dongle in it
Only good for the VW/Audi stuff but VERY good (just about essential) for them

it is the commonly aquired item for those VW/Audi owners that want to do some if not all of their own diag and wrenching.

Thanks. Its not as nice as the E320 but I can tow the utility trailer with it and it has AWD which is needed in the winter. So far the only thing wrong with it is the fuel gauge is inop. It could use a really good detail too.

First of all, I'm fairly biased as I don't believe the reliability of Jeeps to be that good.

However, have you, or the dealerships documented the repair attempts so far?

if there has not been a written repair attempt (repair order) you are likely spinning your wheels.

You need to get everything documented in order to have any type of legal recourse.
