short answer dont bother way too much redtape

other answer guy on another forum from hawaii who moved here brought his 1098 as a personal
import and ended up costing $7K out of pocket for the experience

if you had a specific bike or a emotional attachment then the option is there ut time and money is against you
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

anything pre 89 is much easier as well.  post 89 there is a list of bikes you can bring in easily (not sure what it's called now, ask dotars) which my life insurance man uses to bring in Harleys with his dad - his brother lives in the usa.

make sure, whatever you do, that the bike doesn't leave the usa without all the bureaucracy in place.  otherwise, when it gets here, you get the option of send it back again or crush it.

that bikes abroad site has a link to dotars.  read all the info on the dotars site, it pretty much spells it out.

generally the only difference is the mph speedo and the rh dip headlight.  other non genuine stuff like non sae stamped braided lines, etc, can be an issue.

The cost to get on the road here is the
The big question. I'm thinking about 3-4k

this will not be happening now just so you know shipping was going to be $2500
and the compliance which has to be done in melbourne was going to be about $3000
it is cheaper to but here.

Hi. I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such self-help tapes as “Smoke Yourself Thin” and “Get Some Confidence, Stupid!”
NYTimes: "...highlights of his global tour include encounters with Nelson Mandela, an 800-year-old demigod and a dildo collector."
