There are without a doubt more escalated workplace violence episodes happening.

The NFL is now starting to sound like it's going the way a typical school board.

Should Martin just have punched Incognito in the snoot and been done with it?

I keep hearing the Neanderthal take on it that kicking his ass and earning his respect is all it would have taken. Now it is going to take lawyers and most likely a big check to clear it up.

It sounds to me that Martin had some emotional issue that has come to a head and ESPN is eating it up.

One good thing that has come from it is after 15+ years of listening to 6 hours of sports talk radio 5 days a week ended this morning. I could take no more of it.

Incognito talked to NFL.com this past summer about problems he's had to overcome through therapy with anger-management issues and substance abuse, particularly when he was with the Rams at the beginning of his career.


If you've got anger management issues, why would you even be messing with "substances" anyway?

Poor choices that should have greater ramifications. Permanent banning from NFL would seem a fair punishment to me. That being said, I'm still mad that Vick has been allowed back into the game after the heinous acts that he did to defenseless animals. These guys all too often get a free pass, sad really.

Hard to say, as things seem to change daily. At first Incognito sounded like jackass #1, but now Martin sounds like head case #1. Who knows what actually happened. The only thing for sure is the media is blowing it out of proportion.

Another angle to consider...the NFL is a workplace, not a playground. These are grown men, not school boys. What Incognito did would get someone fired immediately in 99.9% of workplaces...and not just recently with the rise of PC. Maybe if the Dolphins spent more time trying to perform like a team, and less time make the beast with two backsing with each other, they'd have a better record. 

I'm surprised Martin didn't just put a foot in his ass though, if it was that bad. I don't think a person becomes a lineman in the NFL by being a wuss. There's something else to it.

Agreed. However I used to hate bullies in school. I moved to the Boston area from the country in jr. high and had no friends and was bullied. I learned to stand up for my self and fought back. From then on ( jr. high through high school) I made it my mission to beat the snot out of any bullies even if it was directed at someone else.

Excellent!  I firmly believe everyone should have their ass kicked once in their lives, puts things in perspective.  I was unfortunate enough to get hammered by 5 guys and spent two days in the hospital.....they all got theirs when I got better - one by one.  The best part was it was in Venezuela and there are no cops or lawsuits to worry about.

Just another dude in the peanut gallery here who only knows what he's been told by the media, but what is known is:

- Incognito has been accused of harassment multiple times in the past, including accusations from a female volunteer at a Dolphins charity golf game of touching her inappropriately with a gold club, leaned into her/rubbed on her, then threw a bottle of water in her face upon being rebuked.

- Considering the enormous amount of mental and physical preparation required to become a 2nd round NFL draft pick, let alone last a single day in the most brutal and demanding form of modern professional sports...the idea that even the weakest among those that qualify can be described as weak or cowardly seems absurd. I just can't see any of them being afraid of a physical altercation given the abuse they are paid to absorb every Sunday.

- Given the fact that Martin will now be publicly ridiculed, compared to female genitals, and have his sexual orientation called into question for coming forward...I'd say that takes a lot more bravery than punching someone in the mouth.

If "pussification" is indeed the sign of the times, it's not because Paul Brown, Bill Walsh or Vince Lombardi coached players would never back down from a fight...it's more likely that anyone playing for Lombardi or Brown would be man enough to not prey on weaker teammates and vulnerable women.

   Just my .02...I really just want all of em' to STFU and play football. Bleeding for my entertainment every Sunday is what they're paid to do...not provide soap opera drama for all the spectator sociology experts of "Merica to live vicariously through.
