Hi everyone,

Hailing from Frankfurt Germany, I'm an American who's living and working there.  I've been riding since 2003, but the last four years have been sadly bikeless.  Almost all my experience has been on a 2005 Yamaha R6, both road and track.  Now that life is allowing me to get back into riding again, I've decided it's time to try a twin.  I may end up with two bikes if I start to jones for the shriek of a high-strung four-banger, but I have always liked the Monster, for a lot of reasons.  So I'm on the hunt for a good used Monster.

That's all for now, I suppose, I know I'll learn a lot from the forum, and hopefully I can help others, too!

Welcome to a great international forum.
The Monster is a fantastic streetbike you can fall in love with [thumbsup]. You will love the low end grunt, sound and feel. What's great is the L twin desmo motor is a delight whether you're riding fast or slow, unlike most I4s which may be boring unless you're going fast.
I understand the need for an I4, particularly for the track.

The R6 is certainly not built for cruising, exactly as you mentioned, it's not even awake until the engine hits about 8k rpm, and it doesn't make any real grunt until 10k.  After that, however, the thing is a fighter jet on wheels and I still get goosebumps remembering pacing Willow Springs on it  8)

I'll pose another question for the forum, before I start posting in other places.  I'm looking for information from fellow riders, specific to which Monster I should buy.  Based on my desire for adjustable suspension and on my natural gravitation toward the 'big engine - small frame' philosophy, I think either an S2R or an S4R would suit me quite well.  The decision will come with help from our experienced folks on how much age factors into the bike, how much difference there really is between the big-displacement models, and stuff like that.  My question is, which forum is best for searching and asking these questions?
