Maybe a different thread title will draw in the right people...

We need tunes badly.  Normally we stream Pandora and cable the pc to the stereo with the aux input.  One of the guys brought in a sony bookshelf system about a year and a half ago and it finally gave it up.  Sounded great, took a pounding but after all a bookshelf system is just that and really doesn't belong at max volume for years at a time [evil]

I want to piece together a receiver/speaker/sub setup from used stuff to keep the price down.  I was surprised to find Sony receivers on ebay for $75ish.

It's been so long since I bought audio stuff I have to ask what to look for.

So, what should I look for?  Only requirements are: it must get radio signals, if it doesn't have an aux input i at least need to be able to adapt that to an rca input, it must be able to drive two speakers and a sub and a pretty good sound level. . . forever!!

;D

Thoughts on speakers/subwoofers?

Honestly it lasted 18 months at just about full volume.  Not too shabby!

I'm hoping to spend under $200

A little out of the budget tho.

But yes, that would rock HARD.   [evil]

Look for some older Pioneer equipment.  I've got a 20 year old receiver with a pair of KLH speakers that are just as old.  The speakers were cheap but put out some serious sound.  The receiver has never been past half, even at college parties.
