I bought some grip heaters for those cold days But on the instructions it says to drill a hole in the dash of the bike and wire it from there... My 796 only has the digital gauges and doesn't have an empty spot to drill... Where did those of you that put them on your bikes place the switch? Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I have the oxford grip heaters on my monster, and the switch is mounted on the bar.

Whatever you do, do yourself a favour and fit a relay so you cant leave them on and flatten the battery. You will swear you wont do this, but you will leave them on!

I have a set of heated grips that I did not install.  They have their own switch built in and only need to be wired to a battery.

When I did this I installed the switch in the front tank cover near the ignition switch. There is enough room there above the tank and below the cover.

I think he was referring to having the relay so that you can't leave them on when you turn off the bike.

I have seen those switches installed in left or right electric control boxes on the bar + in the headlight bucket.

I'm talking simply about the on off switch. I have a simple one but it's not going to sit pretty anywhere. It is supposed to be put in the cluster off to the side somewhere but the monster doesn't have that luxury.

No fly screen? I've attached a switch inside on one of the plastic mounting tabs.

+1 on the relay.

Ive installed one in my flyscreen and several on the bars over the years. The last couple I have done have come with a mini "rocker" switch which does not work on the bars as easily. I just go down to Radio Shack and get a small toggle switch and put it on one of the perch bolts. I like to point mine down so it doesnt stick up all obvious. I looked for a picture but cant find one off hand. I just picked up a new set as I changed out to Clip-Ons and need to put some on the new setup

I have a square box on the toggle switch that came with the heating pads. I would rather not have the little box sticking out of my fly screen. It would be nice to have it somewhat hidden. I was thinking about wiring a relay to the ignition so it can't turn on without the bike being on. Just so y'all know.

The set that I installed on my monster have a small 4 position temp control switch on the left grip and requires no drilling whatsoever and look like a factory fit , I wired them into the power to the headlight from the ignition so I cannot leave them on by mistake [roll]

easy

wire a relay fed from the headlight or tailight so they will only run when the bike is on

connect to battery with fuse inline through the relay

shouldnt be hard to do

i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

I'm most worried about the switch it's self. I can't seem to find a place to mount it without drillng a hole in something that wouldn't look ridiculous.

Skybarney

Thats why I got the ones I got, no switches to mount as it is integrated right into the grip.  Sadly I have to dink with the cam to mount them up properly and I have bar end signals that are not compatible with them.

Gonna sell them off, got heated liners instead.
