DIY Bar Riser

I'm going to be making a bar riser out of aluminum to go underneath the OEM riser. Before I do so, does anyone here know which aluminum grade is appropriate for this? Would 6061 be okay?

After I wrecked my bike, I installed Renthal bars. The different shape of them compared to the OEM bars forces me to have the forks slid as far down the triples as I can go, and that still doesn't leave room for adjustability. I don't want to swap bars because I really like the Renthals, and I don't think I'd mind an extra 1" of height so I'm going to bring the bars up a bit.

Assuming you're making it from bar stock, any grade of aluminum should be fine.

6061-T6 is widely available, strong, and has good machinability.

Okay that's what I figured. I'll be ordering 6061 today. I'll update this thread with pics after I get it done. Thanks Nick.

Got this project completed today. Bought a block of aluminum on ebay and took it over to my machinist friend's shop. A day later he had them finished. Here's some shots of them:

Haven't had a chance to ride for any length of time yet, interested to see if I notice much difference.

Oh yeah and I ordered longer bolts from McMaster-Carr.

I should change the title of this thread to DIH Bar Riser.... 'do-it-himself' since I didn't actually make these  [Dolph]

awesome!!! How much the hole thing cost you? with the bolts......

To get the block of aluminum shipped to me, I think it was about $20. Then the bolts shipped to me were $18. So $38 total, my friend didn't charge me for machining them. Shipping killed me on both, total shipping cost was $21, leaving $17 actually spent on the items. But still, the cheapest of-the-shelf risers I could find were no less than $50.
