I have a 7870 gpu, and it's been plenty for what I throw at it.  granted, I'm not playing crysis 3 on ultra or anything, but it's still plenty good.  what games are you playing, and how serious are you about games?

MendoDave

Only games I play involve trying to get the bone or rope from the dog. Im not very serious about it and neither is the dog. As long as the game ends in a belly rub all is good. [thumbsup]

I keep up with the NFS games, but like you, I'm not worried about playing the latest and greatest in super HD or similar.  I have a 360 Kinect I do most of my gaming on.

I've got an A8 apu, and it runs fine w/the discrete gpu.  pretty sure you'll be ok w/that gtx 650  [thumbsup]

Something to keep in mind: most on-board video tops out at 1920x1200 when using DVI, since they are single-link. I found this out after completing a build at work, where I have a 2560x1440 LCD that wouldn't work at native resolution. Fixed by resurrecting an old Nvidia 9500GT. Another issue with onboard graphics is that it will use up a portion of your RAM. DIscrete graphics doesn't need it since there's memory on the board.

This was a lot of my reasoning to add a discrete graphics card.  More memory for the other stuff I'm doing.

Plus you can easily upgrade later or replace it when it goes bad. Unlike the one in my laptop that is going out.

My 2 cents....

Use PC Parts Picker...I used it to save a bunch of money on the rig I built for myself last december.

My rig is focused on gaming and will play everything i throw at it at ultra @ 1080p w/o overclocking anything. I tend to spend more on new rigs because I get more longevity out of them. My last PC was built 7 years and was only recently starting to show its age.

Also if you have a microcenter near you, they are always running mobo/cpu bundle deals. My Intel 4770k and Mobo retail for $525  ($335 + $190) I picked them up from microcenter for $330 ($199 + $130) out the door. PC part picker will let you know if they are running combo deals. It is the best.

John - I'll look at Parts Picker.

I've not started anything yet, a couple other ways to spend a few hundred dollars came up that was more important.  I get my coaches supplement end of this month, and that might start my build.  Hopefully something else newer will come out and push the prices down a bit more in the meantime!

The Pyle system seems to have a separate subwoofer amp above and beyond the 500 for the rest of the system.  The Logitech system seems to be sharing 500 watts for everything.  If you're not worried with the price difference AND you've got a 7.1 card, I would got for the Pyle.

Price wise I am leaning towards the Pyle . ..  thing is, it weights 35~40bs . .  @$4.00/lb +10% import tax and 7% sales tax . . .

Ooh, yea, that might be something to consider.  I guess having the discrete sub amp really adds to the weight.  I know my home theater subwoofer is really heavy.
