Does any one know how to run a plate?

I'm trying to serve the guy who drives this car so I can take him to court, but he's shifty, and kind of slick. But not too slick. My other option is to stake him out and follow him home. I had him tailed one day but then I lost him at a traffic light.

Try a google search of the VIN.

A licensed PI can look up that info for you for fairly cheap. Do you know where he regularly parks? You don't need to follow him home, serve him right then and there.

I found out where he lives and where some of his other cars live. And his real name and the real owner of his business. I also have a guy who can run the vin for me.

So... when do we get the back-story?

I'm suspecting that the car is not owned by him. Don't have the vin for that one yet.

Looks like I have some time before I head out for a few days.

I have a 2000 Mercedes E320 wagon. The wagon version of the E320 has an "air ride" self leveling suspension in the rear to compensate for different loads while the sedan has regular shocks. I can get lots of stuff in the back of that thing. The rear system developed a leak in the system and now it doesn't work right.

It is more that I wanted to deal with so I took it to a local guy here in town instead of the MB dealer 75 miles away. I walked in on June 14th and told him to replace all the suspension parts. I wanted them all replaced because in previous conversations he told me that one of the shocks had a leak and he could probably get one used that didn't have a leak. He never did get back to me on that, and after reflecting on it I decided that it would best to have all new parts. Hoses reservoirs etc. He would need a deposit for the parts, about $1,500. I gave him $1,450 and he said they would be in in about a week. A week came and he wasn't open when I went to drop off the car. Now as far as I can tell He hasn't been open for business since. The chain to his parking lot has been closed and locked ever since although he comes in for a few hours in the middle of the day and does who knows what in there.

After about a month of this, I called him up and said I will take a refund, or the Parts and go elsewhere. He called me back right away and said he has just been backed up and that he would get me in and have it done next week. So I got my car in there. About 6 weeks and many excuses later I got the cops to make him release my car.

No work has been done that I can see, no new parts, no $1,450.

We sent a demand letter yesterday giving him 7 days to pay up. I don't expect to hear from him. When I get back from being out of town, which involves work and a Trip to S.F. to see the Giants play the the Cardinals, I am going to serve him with papers to join me in court.

I'm going to have to serve him because he won't respond to Certified mail, or so far, any notes or letters I have sent or left for him.

There are more details to this but that's the short version.

I don't expect to get any money back from him but I might be able to put a lean on something he owns. He has become my new something to do.

Around here $50 and the sheriff will serve him. Not sure if that's available for you there.

$50 and a gangster can collect the $1450 plus "interest". [thumbsup]

You just never see the $1450 that he collects.

To the OP. Get your State DOJ involved. They are usually pretty severe with auto mechanics and the threat of losing their livelihood can make things move pretty quick.
