Pods and Stacks

Ordered the Corse Dynamics kit for my Hyper1100Evo. More an ease of maintenance thing really. I have ordered outerware bags to go over the K&N filters to give extra protection. Also working on a modded airbox, but thats for another day.

There are also other kits with the pods/ velocity stacks configuration. Ung has the WASP kit on his M1100S, there's the TPO Beast and Beast R kits, The Ducshop kit and then the CCW pods for Hypers that clamp straight onto the throttle bodies.

Any other members had experience with this type of set up who have any observations or tips? I have a Bazzaz tuner to fit and may get a reflash. I have read some power claims but Im not convinced. Im more a believer in well designed airboxes but this bike will be the workhorse and two up adventure bike. Its more about easy access to the valves and TBs.
Cheers.

Our bikes like a large body of quiet air. a high flow filter with a modified airbox is the best way to achieve that.

But realistically, you're not racing the thing, you aren't going to notice a 5hp(ish, minimal is the point) loss. Pods give a rad intake noise and can look pretty good to boot.

tuning would be advised either way, but do what appeals to you and dont sweat it. [thumbsup]

No sweat here. Just after tips from anyone who has used a similar kit. I could just ohone Ung ;D

I have made dyno comparisons between pods and airboxes and its true, but Im missing that hinged tank on my old Monster. :P

with a good stack kit (like the wasp kit and derivatives) that uses the original throttle body to airbox rubber tubes it should work very well.  it does make quite a bit of difference.  if you want an airbox build one around the pods.

putting filters straight on the throttle bodies will cost you a little power.

Thanks Brad, that sounds promising.
Coming out even power wise is good but some extra performance is a bonus. I thought about shrouding the pods with an airbox. I'll see if I can be motivated to do that. Im not sure how complete the kit is for a "complete kit", so time might be taken up with that. I will dyno test it when Im finished.

I feel as though I have more turbine-even grunt with WASP stacks and pods than with the stock airbox.  But it's never been scientifically measured.

And anyway, it's worth it just for the magnificent induction roar  ;D

Also....  I think having Autotune helps compensate for the variable incoming air turbulence over the relative static conditions within a good airbox.

only of any real value if you also dyno test before you start, no?

I am using aluminum v stacks directly attached to the carbs with outerwears covers. Haven't noticed much change on the butt dyno. The biggest plus is it makes it easier for service and they look cool as hell. I got my v stacks from http://www.velocity-of-sound.com/.

fixed ;D

Not a bad theory. Plausible and even probable over a few beers. [laugh]

Na, just interested in the final, gross outcome. Don't want to pay and use precious time to have the luxury of knowing the net, relative outcome when I could be working on customer bikes. ;D There may be dyno charts of stock bikes around to give a general if rough idea. I do wonder if 100hp is possible with intake and exhaust alone...
