There is the opportunity to exchange my 06 S2R 1k that has 10.000 km (6.000 miles) for a 96 916 Senna. Lets suppose there is no money back from either side. A simple exchange.
My actual status: a love my bike, dedicated a lot of time building it the way I like. But always loved the Senna since it was lauched. I like the better sitting position of the monster and like to ride 300km (200miles) on saturdays.

But my wife is now pregnant and for the next years I will not ride as offen as I do today. And my wife will not ride with me for the next years, as she does sometimes today.

What do you guys think??? Is it a good or bad deal?
S2R1k for a 916 Senna???

just as reference: my bike (exbox, clipons, matris damper, barends, etc)

How many miles on the 916?
Have the rockers been replaced?

It has arround 10.000 miles. Everything is original.

Two thousand miles you'll need a (more expensive) 4v service.
And belts.

And then you have the rocker issue. Good chance that they are bad and need to be replaced. There is another couple thousand.

So, otherwise, no -- I'd keep your good looking S2R.

Personally I woudnt. But that is me. You know the condition and history of your bike; its quirks, positives and negatives, but most of all... its hassle free. Nothing is worse then getting the raw end of a deal that you wish you never made.
About the same time you're dragging your knees through a series of tight left-right-handers on Sunday afternoon, some guy in white shoes is sweating a 3-foot putt. Go figure.

mighty fine looking 2v monster you got there...
thought it was mine for a second.

I agree with all of you, specially knowing that my bike is in really good shape and condition.

But consider this: The Senna is from a friend of mine, and I know he takes better care of that bike than anything else he has. He is the 2nd owner.
The Senna is number 100 of 300, which means it is a collectors bike, and will keep its value much more than a S2R.

Ahhhh! I really don't know!  [bang]

I'd have the rockers looked at first.  even if you shell out the $ for it it might save you big in the long run on operability if you plan to ride it.

Now as for the proposed trade.....

Your bike can be replaced in it's exact condition at any moments notice.  You know how.....you did it.  You know what it would cost, to a rough measure anyways.

The bike value is in the eye of the beholder.   limited edition collectors bikes are often garage queens because people are afraid to ride them.  Will you be able to enjoy a bike you see as "collectable"?  how about ride it?

Do you have pockets that can replace parts with OE parts if they fail, brake, get broken so that it retains it's value?

From experience having something that you are afraid to lose, or wreck is not really worth it to me, I like to enjoy my toys on the road/dirt/water not my garage, I don't make that kind of $ or have that kind of time.

the rocker issue really isn't a deal breaker since ducati dropped their prices and practically give them away now.

if you want a collector bike, go for it. however, the only thing that makes a senna "special" is the name and the plaque. other than that, it's just a regular ol' 916.

given your assessment of you riding future, an unpractical bike wouldn't be out of the question. if you think you'll be happy w/ the trade (and are up for owning a 12 year old, finicky italian sportbike) go for it.

If I think with no emotion, the best choice is to keep my bike, since it runs better, it is much newer and it is much more fun to ride, since it handles much easier.

But from the emotional side, the Senna is a classic bike (although nothing special besides de name and the plate and derby remembered), my dream bike since I was 19 years old, and named after a Brazilian God (from brasilians point of view, of course). Eventualy, in the long run, it can be more valuable than my S2R. But who knows...

I will think better, and let you know when I decide.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. They did helped me!

Since I have a 996 and the same s2r1k as you, Id say if you can keep the monster and add to your collection with a 'special' bike ,then go for it. ... just having the 916 - when your situation changes (and it will) you may want to revert back to a more practical everyday ride. But the Tamburini is a timeless design- sooooo sexy. And I must admit my other bike is at times WAY MORE fun than my monster- but theyre two different styles of bike.

If its the power your after, theres the s4rs ( and mod it of course!!)

Best of luck!
