i've had a cover on my clutch since i've had my bike (2.5 mos). but i'm about to swap it out with a speedymoto open clutch cover. i've got a yoyodyne slipper clutch...

i guess i should avoid getting water in there when i'm washing the bike or at least as much as possible? how do you clean it up in there. i opened it up for the first time to have a peak and it looks like it could use a cleaning. it's not filthy, just a bit dirty.

thanks

I blast it with compresssed air, then shoot it full of water, then run the bike till it dries. I do this once a month

the normal clutches like to stick after they get wet. You crank it and put it in gear and it lurches forward and stalls. I wash mine like i wash the rest of the bike. Then crank it while wet to quickly dry the clutch.

Just wash it and then run it for a bit to dry things up (run to the store and grab a sixer) and then put it away.

Beware of Asbestos.

Asbestos is illegal in all of the US, not sure on europe. However i will ask anyway, why would there be asbestos in there? The dust is just iron from the plates rubbing against each other.

edit: nvm, i forgot what Asbestos was when i posted that. I was not aware that there could be asbestos but i highly doubt it. That stuff is illegal in most countries

asbestos used to be used in the friction material in brake pads and clutch disks. i would think the only place to find it would be an old car thats been hiding in a barn.

There is no asbestos, but use caution anyway.  No reason to believe the new materials are safer and all foreign material is bad for your lungs.

I don't know about motorcycle clutch parts, but I would not be surprised if a small ammt is still in there.
I'm an architect and many building products such as mastics and adhesives still contain a trace ammt of asbestos to this day.
The laws limit the percentage.

Probably safe to not inhale any dust you blow off your bike.  Just in general.  ;)
