In the most true sense of racing is racing and you earn your stripes then, yes.  In another picture all he did was help Jorge and hurt Rossi.  The only benefit for Iannone is that he got a podium. It didn't really affect his standing, it did not affect the team standing or the manufacturers standing. Finishing 4th would not have hurt whatever contract options he has with the team either. In effect he was working for Lorenzo by doing what he did. If he was able to beat Jorge then that truly would have been a different story.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

He got on the podium because that's what he's paid to do. I pay a premium to MotoGP each year to watch the best riders in the world race and hopefully get a glimpse of Ducati at least attempting to be competitive. If he would have let Rossi pass him, I would have fired him on the spot.

The Architect

I'll say it again, the only thing that would have made this race better was if Iannone past J-lo on the last lap.

But I believe that if Iannone wasn't passing, leading and mixing it up, in the begining, J-lo would have, in his usual precise manner, just ran away.  Iannone was the rain, that minor disturbance that kept J-lo from going to his happy place and carving endless perfect laps.

+1

It's racing!  It's not "what do we need to do to make sure Rossi wins?"

Here is a snapshot of an Italian newspaper telling Iannone to emigrate to Spain since he is NOT a TRUE Italian

Exactly.  [thumbsup] [thumbsup] This isn't F1, and he doesn't race for Italy. He races for himself and Ducati.

Raux

I think that ianonne had a real ahot at that race all the way. That is the first race where i can confidently say ducati is real close to being back in the championship fight.

Did anybody else feel like MM had the pace to pass Lorenzo sooner than the final lap?

I got the feeling that he was purposely hanging back to keep Rossi and Iannone at bay.

If he was hanging back I think it was because he didn't feel like he could gap JLo. Therefore, better just pass on the last lap and not let JLo learn where he is weak.

He was quoted on motogp as having overheated the front tire and so was trying to cool down.  Thus he was holding back in order to lower the temperature and make it last to end of race.  But then he just said screw it, I'm going for it.

Quote"You know during the race I feel really strong but there were many passes between me, Valentino and Andrea and Jorge opened a gap. Then I pushed a little to catch Jorge but I overheated the front tyre and I had a lot of movement when I tried to open a gap. I tried to slow down to cool it down but it wasn’t there. The last three laps I said ‘OK I will push’. Andrea and Valentino overtook me and then the last lap I pushed 100%. I didn’t expect to arrive to Jorge but really happy for the win. I don't know where I pulled that time out from, but it was what made the difference for us!"

Numerous incidents come to mind. Corser and Edwards in SBK were big hits.
