You can easily use a Universal remote. Indeed, the old settings on my Harmony One just work on the new Apple TV. The new Siri remote has two features the Harmony can't do. The first is the whole Siri thing, which works well but feels a bit gimmicky to me, so I could live without. The second is the touchpad on the Apple remote. It makes navigating the UI so much nicer and is pretty hard to give up.

My understanding is that the new remote was capable of acting as a universal remote as well.

Siri Remote
- The sensitivity of the Siri Remote's touch surface can be adjusted in the Settings app under Remotes and Devices > Touch Surface Tracking.
- The triple-press Home button accessibility shortcut can be changed in the Settings app under General > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut.
- The Siri Remote's battery level is listed in Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
- The Siri Remote can power on/off or adjust the volume of your TV and speakers over HDMI-CEC or IR. In some cases, this pairing process is automatic after setup, or manually configurable in Settings > Remotes and Devices > Home Theater Control under the "Turn On Your TV with Your Remote" and "Volume Control" menus.

I like that the remote is rechargable with the lightning port & cable.

Yup, this is what I was getting at. We'll see how it works in practice. Mine was delivered this morning so I'll play around with it a little and see if it can control the LG tv and the Sony DVD/surround sound.

Gotcha.

I just had the wrong impression then. I thought that the new one didn't work with your Uni for some reason. But it's just that you don't get some of the new whiz bang

So I played around with it a little last night. Pretty user friendly. I think the swipe touchscreen is easier to use than clicking the right and left arrows for typing. The Siri function is pretty good and is able to understand what I say.

Netflix looks different than it did on my old model, but that's not a bad thing. Downloaded Plex and it seems like it will be much easier to use than my old method.

All in all, after a couple hours of use; I like it.

I see that Costco offers one for $190 it says 64gig for storing stuff

On the Apple site it says they start at $149 I think.

The page is down where the buying takes place at apple.
Do they have different sizes?

I just bought one. Today (Black Friday) they give you a $25 gift card with the purchase. I might buy earpods with it.

MendoDave

Definitely a nicer unit than the previous gen TV.
Setup is super slick, it got all the account info from my phone.

MendoDave

The Remote that comes with it, although it is functionaly better, its not as cool as the old one which was milled out of solid aluminum.

MendoDave

Sooo, not a TV, picked up a set of ear pods today. These things are cool. I highly recommend getting a set.

StephenC

I would, except there is a six week wait on them and I'm too impatient to wait!

I wonder how well they would stay in, when putting your helmet on?

They're programmed to automatically fall out of your ear when you put a helmet on. 'They're' smart enough to know better.  ;)
