So those of you who take pictures of the cars parked next to your bike....

when you park.....what do you expect to actually do with those pictures if your bike gets knocked over?

I don't see how you could confirm that the car that *was* there was absolutely the one that knocked your bike over.


I'm not sure how tracking them down, noting corresponding damage on their car would even be enough to prove anything if they didn't admit it. I'm curious here. Help me out.

My 1st thought is to make sure that your bike w/ your license # and the cars on either side of you w/ their license #s are all showing in the same picture.

if people do this, they are mental.  If your bike gets tipped over and you are not there to see it and literally get some form of settlement there on the spot from the other party then you are never getting anything.  You're not there and return to discover that your bike got tipped-you pick it up and ride away ... this is why I will only ride a 695 in the city now, bikes get tipped over, it happens- frequently.

Paint transfer can occur. Red car in photo; red paint on your knocked over bike; red car has scratch on it.

But of course the smart thing to do is avoid that situation if at all possible. In oz, we're allowed to park on pavements as long as we don't block the way. I have under cover parking EVERYWHERE I go!

I do the same. When ever i park my bike next to a questionable car, ill take a pic if i have my digital on me, or remember their plate.

Questionable cars list.

1) expensive car with big ass rims or wanna be baller pieces. why? its usually a dumbass kid driving it. Who probably doenst know what the other gears mean other htan D
2) Big ass SUVs. why? do i have to say?
3) retarded broken ass cars with missing bumpers. why? they got that way, for the exact reason im taking the pic.

Try your best not to park near them, but sometimes you have to stop for a min, and htats the only spot. :/

today i parked and saw a ford windstar 2006 van. The lady inside grilled the shit out of me. She looked like she was going to purposely run my bike over in front of me and back up and run it over an piss on it So i took her plate down. Thankfully, my bike was okay. She just had a mean look i guess.

The simple solution is to go ahead and wreck your bike.  That way who cares if it gets tipped over, its already all scratched up anyways.

they do say that the first scratch is the worst scratch.  i bought my bike with a few scratches, and i added a few more along with the tank dent, and i honestly dont think it would bother me too much if it fell over.  yeah i would be pissed if i knew it got hit/bumped/pushed, but the times ive come out and seen the kickstand through the pavement it hasnt bothered me.

Many years ago... in school.... we has assigned parking... my green honda was smacked by the orange VW parked in the spot next to mine. Paint transfer on both cars. Green on the one, and orange on mine. The lady claimed she didn't do it. The cops said that unless somebody steps forward as a witness, paint transfer is not enough. Obvious in your face proof is not enough. Why? Cause the world is not like CSI. The police have better things to do. However, if I had taken her to civil court, and spent all my money in that route... I could have possibly won. Funny that the officer actually told me to take it to civil court. I am like, it was a fricken hit and run and you don't even want to research it.

I'm 1000% percent behind this.  Until I read this post I had NO IDEA people actually do this kind of crap w/their bikes.  Do you people also carry shooting rifles around in case you see a bird that might want to shit on your bike?  "I better take out that pigeon, he looks like he might shit on my bike"

Hit and run?   come on.   I don't want my tax dollars spent on the state investigating your dinged car.

civil court is the right avenue for that scenario.   No way to prove to criminal standard what happened because no way the state would or should pay the time for the expert needed to analyze the paint.  Without that or a witness there's no obvious and in your face proof of anything.

And if someone tried to sue me in civil court for a door ding I'd tie them up for so long it will cost them so much more in lost work coming to court and paperwork the door could have been resprayed ten times over.

To the initial posted question:   pictures of the car next to you (at one point in time...not automatically when your bike got knocked down) would do nothing for you except get you a harrasment charge when you go hunting for the person and confront them.

No... I agree with you. My point was that unless somebody actually sees it, or admits to it, then nothing can really be done about it. Life goes on... you live and you learn. Of course as a cocky college kid... I had to pregnant dog and moan up and down the street about it for months.

Seems like the thread is taking the correct route which in my professional opinion is...move on. Unless you see the incident occur or have a witness that did, paint transfer don't mean nada. Also what are the odds you will have any paint trasfer to begin with? There are lots of points on the monster without paint and lots of cars doors have rubber strips to prevent transfer.

Bottom line. Never park your bike where you would worry about it.
