He means:
Did your friend have to talk to the other insurance company himself or did his insurance company do all the negotiating. Some of us have insurance plans where our insurance company will only help us negotiate for repairs if we caused the accident.

I don't quite understand what kind of deal your friend got. Is he going to get it welded but take the money it would have cost to replace it and do other work on his bike?
ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!
The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

OK - he talked to them himself and they were quite friendly. Quick and painfree. (he was lucky  [thumbsup])
The company decided to allow the shop of their choice do repair work (more or less) related to the incident - up to the amount it would have cost them to replace ALL parts, paint the tank + labour.
So, he chooses a welded side stand, keeps the miniature scratch on the tank and fill the order with the "entire" Rizoma catalogue, chain, sprockets, powder coating, a RapidBike system and more.

If I'm not here for a few hours to reply, please excuse me - I'm out to find a truck with the same insurance company. I'll park my bike behind it. [evil]
