charcoal canister and leaking gas and stalling

filled up a tank of gas the other night, and today oiled the chain on the center stand and while putting it up probably shook the tank a bit.

ok take it off the centerstand i notice i have fuel leaking off the engine, check closer and it appears that the bottom hose of the charcoal canister is leaking fuel out of it.  is this what its supposed to do and why?

then try to start it and it stalls out and barely starts, put on the fast idle for a little while then turn it off and the bike starts right up.  a couple of hours later try to start it up again,and same thing stalling out, but once its running on the highway for a bit its fine when i start it again in teh parking lot?

what is the cause? the overfill of the gas tank? or bad tank of gas?

Overfilling the tank.  Do a canisterecomy, problem solved.

Overfilling will puke raw gas into the charcoal, and then the engine is sucking it in.

Likely it will *eventually* dry out, but I'm not at all sure how long that takes.

Just make sure to route the filler drain and vent line somewhere safe.  ( I know it seems like a no-brainer, but the last time I got my Triumph back from the shop, they'd lost the original hoses so they'd replaced them with much shorter ones which, the first time I overfilled my tank, dripped gas right onto the exhaust pipe.)

fwiw, since the vent line is actually open to the atmosphere once you remove the cannister, I like to keep it high and put a filter on it, rather than leave it open down by the road.  I have mine routed to the side cover, where I zip-tied a small fuel filter to the frame.

bike runs fine, guess it just needed to run a while to let the canister drain and the fuel to get lower.

can't remove the canister, the bike wouldn't be as cool as a stock bike, besides the 620 is probably one of the few bikes where the canister actually is placed in a decent place, unlike the new s4r models where it looks like they put the thing on literally when they putting it in the crate and said "damn we have to put this on, just stick it on the side of the engine with double sided tape".

More likely it was "we know everyone is going to rip this useless POS off, let's put it here and make it easy on them."  [thumbsup]
