Computer help needed, inquire within....

I know there are a few knowledgeable computer folks here, and I need help with a weird internet connectivity issue.

PC is a cheap Windows 10 HP attached to a Belkin wireless router. My ISP is Verizon, 4G LTE. About all I use this thing for is messing around online and email, and some minor Office work. Intermittently I run into times where the only websites off my bookmarks list that will load and function normally are Facebook and Wikipedia. Everything else will sit and attempt to connect, and time out saying there is no connection when there obviously is. Email function (through Gmail) works fine. In the past the situation would correct, or seem to that is, if I rebooted the LTE cantenna (and everything else). Until now.

The router seems to be working fine and says I have a good connection and am connected, yet I can't go beyond the couple of websites. All lights on the LTE box are go as well. One time months ago I had a Windows error box pop up saying something about a script that was running for an excessively long time, and clicking cancel seemed to solve the problem, but I have not seen this pop-up since. 

I'm no IT professional and my days of real computer proficiency died with the DOS days, so I'm basically stuck. I'm about to throw this damn thing through the wall.....any ideas???

Try setting up a home network, if you haven't already.

My advice is pretty standard fare:
1) Make sure it's clean -download and scan with malwarebytes
2) Free up resources -uninstall any apps you no longer need, clean up some drive space, etc.
3) Try manually setting different DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Google's or 9.9.9.9 for Quad 9)
4) Open your browser in Incognito/InPrivate mode to bypass any plug-ins, etc. and see if the site(s) load
5) Install/try a different browser like Chrome or Firefox. Your current browser could be borked
6) If it's still slow/hanging, check your Task Manager when it's happening and see if it's a resource issue (CPU, RAM, etc.) If it is a resource issue, sort by CPU, then by memory and try to ascertain what/where the culprit is.


The latest version of Firefox has gotten a lot of positive reviews for much improved performance. Might be worth a try if you don't already use it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

My mom's laptop does the same thing.  It get add-ons randomly showing up in Chrome and Firefox.  When I go through and remove all of those it seems to work great for about 24hrs, then it all happens again.  It's a Win10 machine.

I've recently added uBlock Origin to drastically curtail the memory hogging of ad-infested websites.

Whether that would help with your issue, I don't know.

My lappy came with Win10, plays nicely with Firefox or Chrome.
Home desktop is Win7, currently plays nicely with Chrome, trying to get FF to cooperate.

Did some of this, except #3, #4, and #6.

A coworker suggested #3 also. Currently using Chrome, but the problem persisted with Explorer also. I need to get FF on it to see how that reacts next time it becomes uncooperative.

Oh, it started working again last night. Poof. I hate this goddamn thing and W10.  >:( >:( >:(
