Has anyone out there ridden one of the newer KTM SuperDukes? What'cha think?
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

I rode one 2 years ago for about 70 miles. Had tons of grunt and flicked around almost without a thought. Seemed a little short to me tho. It was bone stock, and wasn't as visceral as my Monster. Kinda pricey too. Nice bike, but for that price it wasn't for me.

The Duke ain't no Duc.

I think the Super Duke can replace the monster. Super nice ergos and a beast with the full Akrapovics. I love it but now that I think of it, Monster stablemate.

Brother-in-law (KTM 950SM) and I (S4RS) got pretty good rides from a local dealer.  It's a good bike overall, but IMHO, not the equal of the S4R/RS - no lighter, not as powerful, not any better in handling etc. and right at the same price point.

It has very good potential though. KTM has a big scary catalog filled with really good looking performance options that would really wake one up. If I didn't have Ducati running through my veins, I might have one.

Rode one at the IMS show for a demo, and got banned from ever riding at a KTM demo ever again for passing the leader at ***mph... Fun bike...

I prefered the 950 SM-R though, that thing was actually even better than a Hypermotard to me, but my buddy really liked the Super Duke...

If it wouldn't be for the lousy dollar to euro rate, I'd own a KTM, they arent everyone's cup of tea, and they aren't a "do it all" bike, but they are great niche bikes

I rode an '08 990cc several times and I would buy one in a heartbeat. Fast and comfortable, and that engine sounds sweet.

Yep , liked it , priced out of my budget though, happy with my S2r

The new and improved SD990 has more power, better brakes, better.. well all round. I did a test ride, I want one. My S4Rs was fast but, this thing is nimble and aggressive like my Rs never was. The WP suspension is high quality. I found the forks to respond better to my weight that the Öhlins R&T items (not the best forks out there anyway).

The fuel tank issue is a pain in the butt (if you run too low on fuel and are ragging the bike around, you could end up with the engine stalling when totally over on it´s side - you´ve gotta be really low on gas).

I like the bike, maybe when my self confidence is back up again and there isn´t anything more tempting from Ducati.. I may go for one. It will get you into trouble, that engine is the devil in disguise. Even if it is down on power compared to a S4Rs, the gearing more than makes up for the lack of power in acceleration. The brakes are just as good and as the forks don´t dive so suddenly you won´t scare yourself silly.

Tons of Torque, but revs out quicker than the Duc, which is lame in my opinion.   :-\
About the same time you're dragging your knees through a series of tight left-right-handers on Sunday afternoon, some guy in white shoes is sweating a 3-foot putt. Go figure.

I was just looking at the tech data on the 990 SD and the 990SD R model.

Looks like the regular model is 88 kW and the R model is 97 kW (kW X 1.34).  That's the same as the S4R(RS). And with the big scary catalog of performance parts the R model should at least equal the RS in power. Hard to believe I just said that.

The stock cans are very heavy (heavier), just like the ones on the S4RS and from what I saw on my Bro-in-laws 950SM the KTMs respond VERY well to those open pipes and airbox mods, just like the monsters do.

Like nuts said, the White Power suspension is at least the equal of the Ohlins too.

I think you outta get the R model. ;D

That would be the ticket. We'll see. It all depends on how good the deals are and.....and.....and..... you know. ;D

I bought a Superduke R just 10 days ago. It's a fantastic handling bike. I have no buyers remorse whatsoever after the 600 mile ride I did on it last weekend. I am now a member of the orange army. It will lool just like this one once I get the Akra's:

My S4Rs is for sale here: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=7936.0

I will miss it for sure, especially the Testastretta motor. In the end a lateral trade but variety is the spice of life I suppose.

How's the seat? I hear that's the main complaint against the "R". How hot does it get in traffic?

I think that bike looks way good!

Well the seat is hard for sure but my ass isn't any more sore than getting off the Monster after several hundred miles. Renazco is making a seat for it and it'll be available through ktmtwins.com. Right now bone stock it does tend to surge at low, constant speeds but once the cans and requisite mapping gets loaded into the ecu it should solve that issue. Nice that KTM provides an ecu that you can load the Akrapovic map to.
