UPDATE:
Apparently I have very little willpower.

Went to the doctor today for a congestion/allergy issue.  Of course the Dr. recommends me to quit smoking...as they all do, but this time she offered a prescription.

So, I started the program ASAP, and have 1 week left to smoke.

At +$150 a month (not covered under my medical plan), this shit BETTER work.
It's a 12 week deal, but I'm going to "try" to have it done in 8 weeks so i don't have to buy another box.

I can't wait for the side affects:

1) Nausia  [puke]
2) Sleep problems including vivid strange unusual dreams  [laugh]
3) Constipation  [laugh]
4) Gas  [laugh]
5) Vomiting  [puke]
6) depression/suicide  :-[
7) mania  [bang]
8 ) hallucinations  :o
9) unusual mood changes  :'(

and that's just to name a few.

corey

jeez... sounds like your better off smoking at that point...
good luck man, it's a difficult task. we're rootin' for ya.

How much do you spend on ciggies?

Are you aware of the side effects of smoking? [evil]

You could just man up and quit the make the beast with two backsing things you know. :-*

Reformed smokers :P

In NYC $150 a month would be a bargain, cigarettes here are about $10 a pack.  Quitting is different for everyone, but I think part of the problem is media convincing people it is that difficult.  The other problem is you either really want to quit or really have to.

We are rooting for you [thumbsup]

It isn't easy...

I know.

It really is a decision though.

The nicotine monster doesn't have to run your life.

That is exactly correct howie.

Quitting isn't hard.

Deciding that you can live without cigarettes in the long term is tough to deal with.

It's not that I want to smoke...it's just that I'm not sure that I want to work this hard to not smoke. ;)

Yea, it's the whole convincing thing.  It's been a long time since I've stuffed a wad of shredded tobacco leaves into my mouth (not that shit that comes in a can...).  It took some time, but I don't want it all the time now.   There's still times I do, but I just have to find something to distract myself with.

The owner of a machine shop I work with called the other day and drops the bomb that he had just got done with chemo treatments for cancer attributed to his occasional cigar smoking.   One of my aunts died from lung cancer as she was a cigarette smoker all of her life.  My grandfather died from emphysema due to smoking his entire life.

Just some dark and dreary food for thought.

My dad smoked 1-2 packs of cigs for most of his adult life.  He died at 86 due to complications from SHINGLES.  Not a touch of emphysema or lung problems.

In nature there are not black and white rules and there are always exceptions to general trends.  But do you want to gamble with your life on the chance that smoking won't hurt or kill you.

Everything we do is a gamble.

I am sure some people are more disposed to disease.

I don't see how that gamble is any different from the one on a motorbike.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Many of those are pregnancy side effects too! [cheeky]

Seriously, good luck, I hope the prescription helps.
