I don't see how that gamble is any different from the one on a motorbike.

Common Mr Incredible,  Surely you can see the difference.  COPD or cancer, a protracted illness and a long drawn out death.  And you will know it is coming for a long time.  The risk of death by MC and smoking are not compensatory they are additive meaning that if you smoke and ride you are not substituting the risk of one for the other, rather the risks are added giving you a higher probability of an early end.

Yes, because no one has ever been paralyzed on a bike, or had to spend a long time relearning to walk, etc.

No one is saying combined they aren't worse than either.

At least with smoking it could likely take years to kill you-on the bike, it's any moment.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Here is the tuff luv message I am trying to get across.  If you are using your riding as a rationalization for smoking you are either a damn fool or you are lying to yourself.  Not trying to piss anyone off.  Just trying to make it simple and easy.  You are all my bros.

1 week has passed since my last smoke, and I don't get the urges too often anymore. Can't say for sure if it's the prescription or placebo, but I guess it doesn't really matter.  Only side effect so far is i think I'm a bit more emotional than normal.   :'(  [bang]  [laugh]

Good work.

You can do it.

So its now been 2 1/2 months since my last smoke, and as a side effect I drink a lot less.

When I first started this post back in 9/08 I was smoking about 3/4 packs, and drinking about 6 drinks (mix of beer and whiskey) a day.

I tried to quit on my own for almost 2 years, but you know how that goes.  You REALLY need to find YOUR reason to QUIT before you can REALLY QUIT.

At this point, I can hang out with my smoking friends without even thinking that I need a cigarette.   I was smoking consistently for almost exactly 10 years, and on and off 10 years before that.

As a pleasant side effect, now that I don't smoke, I only drink about 1-3 drinks a day.  So,... I'll consider that a 3/4 success to the original post...and I can live with that. [cheeky]

My doctor prescribed Chantix to help me quit, and I'll say if you don't have much will power, every little bit of help goes a long way.  Does it work? I don't know, but it and/or the online program help me in one way or another.

I was prescribed 12 weeks of Chantix, bought 8 weeks worth, and only used it for 4 weeks.  Now I have an extra box worth $150 collecting dust.  :-\

What REALLY made me quit was the smokers cough that occurs the first few weeks after quitting.  I don't want to ever have to go through that again.  That REALLY SUCKED!!!

Another plus to quitting smoking was that shortly after, I was able to pay off a credit card that had been looming over my head for the last couple months, and that put me at ZERO debt.   ;D But, that didn't last very long as I bought myself a new computer as a reward shortly after. :-\

Oh yeah, and thanks for all the support DMF!  [cheeky]

I see it might lasta couple days.. does that mean we bring tents or make resovations?  Oh and what's the location to see how long I needto be on the road..

You pretty much got it.  I would suggest reservations.  Very limited indoor facilities, so a tent is a good idea.  I think a good estimate on road time is about 5 hours to a week depending on the route you choose.  No guarantee on not getting jailed.
