when i insert key into seat lock, and turn it, there is no tension
the cable (from underneath) does not appear to be pulling/engaging

is there a way for me to dismantle the rest of the undertail mud-guard to remove the seat?  either way, it will still be locked right?

i have tried pulling on the cable itselt with no luck.  and i bent my key ;0

what year/model is your bike?

On my carbe monster, i just stuck a screw driver in there. (by in there i mean wedged between the seat. not in the key hole.
on my monster, i just stuck a similar sized key driver in there (insided the keyhold) (masterlock key works)  (when i left my keys at home and the bike was in the garage).

Some models you DONT turn the key. There is a catch to lift once the key is inserted. Turning the key stuffs it.

Check your model and method of operation.

Regardless of model and year, if you can get to the cable under the seat you can unlatch it.

Use something like the key or a screwdriver to catch the cable itself, not the sheath on the cable.

By yanking the cable it will come unlatched.

You may have to push down on the top of the seat to get it to unlatch.

Capo

The seat latch system consists of a pin with a slot in it connected to the seat, it mates with a latch assembly fixed to the frame, the latch (which is plastic) fits in the slot in the pin. The latch is withdrawn from the slot by means of a short bowden cable connected to the lock.

If you try to force this apart as has been suggested, you risk damaging the plastic latch.

The better solution is the one posted by Rameses.

Again, a lot of models you don't actually turn the key, you just put the key in the lock, and then there is a release lever on the underside.

the stuck seat may be caused by the last modification :)
yes, 07 695

the cable itself , pulled with pliers seems to already be fully "extended" as in there is no tension when i pull on it
i'll try actually pushing down on the seat

thanks

When you're pulling on it with pliers are you pulling on the actual metal cable or on the outside sheath?

And are you pulling toward the lock or away from it?

Yeah, my high-mounts got in the way of the lock too.

That's why I know about hooking the cable with the end of the key.   [thumbsup]
