I just picked up a used 2006 S2R from a dealer and when I got home I noticed a few things that I dont know about. Can someone help?

First its a little low on oil and it will be a week before I can get to the local dealer for oil, oil filter and do a oil change, what kind of oil do I use?
Second. the seems to be some grease leaking from the rear wheel mount, there is some build up of grease where the swing spilts and the rear axle is mounted? normal or something I should look into?

The bike has 3027 miles on it and its do for service til 6000?
Does Ducati have service and parts manuals in english?

Dont own my ducati yet, but you can add most any motorycle engine oil in the mean time until you get the oil changed. Buying a quart of oil is far cheaper than running it low until you get it serviced  [thumbsup]

Fill her up with anything you want, but honestly, you can just grab a case of mobil 1, and do an oil change. Remember, you read your oil with the bike standing up right, not on the sidestand.

Like He Man said, make sure you're checking your oil level right. Bike needs to be straight up. If I recall correctly, it also helps if you don't check it straight after riding it. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Normal.  Just clean it off.

My S4RS manual says to check the oil when the engine is cold.

ETA Congrats on the bike. Them's some low miles for a 2 YO bike. You are going to have a lot of fun.

THen cold, either way, i just fill her up half way between low and high, and call it a day.

If your bike is 2 years old with 3,000miles, that oil might have been sitting for a long while. i would do an oil change.

Thanks guys, I did recheck it level and its towards the top line so I went out and put 50 miles on it today. I have another question? It has the full Arrow Exhaust and I was told its had the ecu reprogrammed for the exhaust but the airbox is completely closed? Do I need the open airbox?

It just had the 3000 mile service done, and the oil in the sight is brand new. Plus you can tell the belt covers were off cause someone forgot to put three screws back in the lower one.

Don't just assume the belt cover were off just because it's missing a few screws. They could have vibrated out. What did you mean by the ECU had been reprogrammed?

There isn't much adjustability in the ECU.

Theres no such thing as a 3,000 mile service. and +1 to the vibration. Part of the 6000mi service is to torque test all the bolts.

There isn't a major service at 3K but you should be changing your oil at the very least. I know when I'm doing the oil changes, no matter what the milage is I still check all the little things like belt tension, chain/sprocket wear, etc.

ok i will change the oil that way i know it will be good till the 6k service. Is the oil filter Ducati only or can I get one from somewhere else? also how much oil should I buy?
