There isn't a major service at 3K but you should be changing your oil at the very least. I know when I'm doing the oil changes, no matter what the milage is I still check all the little things like belt tension, chain/sprocket wear, etc.

You know, i think the oil thing is bullshit. Heres an article about a stress test on NY Taxi Cabs.

"To determine whether frequent oil changes really help, we changed the oil in three cabs every 3,000 miles, using Pennzoil 10W-30. After 60,000 miles, we compared those engines with the engines from our base tests of the same oil, changed every 6,000 miles. We saw no meaningful differences. When Mobil 1 synthetic oil came out, Mobil presented it as an oil that, while expensive, could go 25,000 miles between changes. That claim is no longer being made. But Mobil 1 is still on the market, selling at a premium (along with pricey synthetic competitors from several other companies). And synthetic oil's residual reputation as a long-lasting product may still prompt some people to stretch their oil changes longer than the automaker recommends. "

Ok guys I have a few more questions if you dont mind?
Being that my bike is a 06 and its 2008 should I replace the belts?

Also what happens if I cut the airbox open? It has the full arrow exhaust and I dont see a O2 sensor anywhere? Can the airbox be cut?

He Man

you technically should. But im running my belts for another couple of months. I have an 06 S2R1k as well 8500 miles on OEM belts. They will be changed after the winter frost.  The o2 sensor is screwed into the pipe, im not sure where yours is exactly, but it should around the area where the 2 pipes would meet since we have 1 o2 sensor for 2 cylinders.

If you cut the airbox open, you best bet your ass you will run lean. Don't bother doing it. you can try to run without an airbox for a while. I have no exahust system and i ran without an airbox, my bike runs lean enough to shut of time to time for no reason (other than fueling). I put mine back on.

Thanks for the help. I think next week when I do the oil change I will pull the covers and just look at them, they may have been done who knows. If the belts look ok I will plan on doing them in a few months when it turns cold. I don't expect to put more then a 1000 miles on it by then if that.

Also what is the redline of the 1000ds? I find it odd that they dont have a redline marked?

He Man

The belts will always look okay. until they rip. Thats just the way they are, some people ride lightly and have them on for 4+ years and they look exactly the same, still needs to be changed either way. Unless theres some serious deformaties. Ducati was known to overtigthen the belts so you might be better of replacing them and redoing the tension (i redid the tension at 6k)

I think the DS1000 redline is about 8500-8700rpms.

Ok next issue I am having, the clutch. I have smallish fingers and the clutch doesnt release til the very end of the travel. Is there any way to move the travel to the center of the throw? I am having a hard time taking off from a dead stop with out bogging it or overrevving it.

He Man

Have you taken a look at your lever? its adjustable. [thumbsup] if thats still not enough, then you must have freakishly small hands, or your a girl. As far as bogging it or over revving it. If you can do both, it just means you have to get use to the bike.

Can the throttle be changed out? It has a quarter turn now, and if you were racing or canyon racing it would be fine, but in town it sucks...

Seems after reading some more I need to install the 14tooth sprocket.

14tooth definitely helps, I've got an s2r 800 with that mod. I also had issues with the the levers being too far from my tiny hands. Make sure you adjust the levers to wherever its comfortable. If that doesn't work, then go for the 14 tooth. No need to spend money if you don't need to IMHO.

Should my bike have a o2 sensor? It has the full Arrow exhaust, stock ecu and airbox but I dont see an O2 installed.

Ok let me ask this? There is two bungs in the arrow pipe, but they just have a plug in them. Where are the O2 sensors?

He Man

My answer would be: in the trashcan of whoever installed the kit because thats where it belong.  [thumbsup] The other one is for CO analysis.

weird noise- when I am on the highway@ 65-70 I hear a squeak? It comes and goes most of the time, sometimes its squeaks for a few seconds and then goes away? I dont see any thing that could be making that kind of noise. Any ideas?
