Went down to the shop and watch Rick clean his 848... ;D

funny, he was doing the same thing when we got there.

made jack daniel's bbq wings. cornbread, and corn on the cob... while the bf worked on getting the exhaust headers off. ceramics are done, and will hopefully get back on tonight.

No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

Ran half mile to gym at 1730. Thought my throat was going to blister and start to bleed it was so hot. worked out. ate food. consumed 2 gallons of water yesterday. up to a 1.25 gal so far today. Living vicariously through the DMF and youtube.
Did I ever tell you the story about the Zen master and the little boy?

Hell man, I almost want to deploy just so I can get back into shape again. lol

And speaking of that, I might be heading back down to Kabul for a few weeks...   [thumbsup]

If I could go for a few weeks, I'd be down.   It's the 8-15 month dealie that changes my mind every time.

Man, I'm telling you...  I think the riding in southern Maryland is better than the stuff out in western Virginia.  There are sections with more extreme twisties out to the west, but they are punctuated by very long stretches of straight roads.  The stuff in MD is much more consistent and has such better flow.

I know the roads near Jen's sister's house are pretty incredible.  They're also VERY narrow, and tend toward moist and crowded with Audis.

Some of the roads that we were on today were stupid narrow, like old UK village road narrow only without the hedgerow.

What part of the state is Jenn's sis in?

Spent the majority of today's ride on an 1198.  We had a smaller group than normal with almost all superbikes. Only had two Monsters, one of which was Jing. Mulan showed with his 796 HM. The guy that bought the red 999S was there. No Streetfighters.

The suspension on the 1198 is definitely different than the 848. The front forks feel similar but the rear shock on the big bike is more compliant than the one on the little brother.  I think Emile should work on the front end a little more but that's about it. While the big bike is faster and has more torque it doesn't seem the huge difference now from the times before when I rode them. You don't have to work them as hard as the 848 and it's not that hard to manage the throttle. I guess that's what lots of SBK saddle time does to you.

One thing though is that the 1198 runs a lot hotter, about an average of 20 degrees hotter at all times, even driving at freeway speeds and don't slow down cause it goes to over 200* in no time. Just like the 999. The 848 is far better in traffic. I liked the dry clutch action better than the wet clutch but that's so close as to be a non-factor. The front brake on the 1198 is much more powerful and that's nice but I may have that fixed before the year is out.

Would it be worth it for me to strain to jump the difference between the cost/selling price of the 848 to get even a used 1198?  In short, nope.

Found out the bike is going to be at SS for a while.  They have, essentially, none of the parts in stock.

On the other hand, got a box in the mail.  ;D
