Best quote in a long time from yesterday's ride.

"I'm as fast as Pat is when he's all hung over."   [moto]   ;D

Weird, you know, that we never went over to the windward side yesterday.

Is Pat fast?  He never really seemed all that quick when I was still down there.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

I think it depends on which road and which bike he's on. Seems to be pretty up there on the open curves but maybe not as much on the tight, technical stuff. He still doesn't know some of the roads by heart. Plus, if he's on the 1198 he can use the electronics. Brandon freely admits to being faster now on the S1000RR and not just because of the extra power. Obviously there is that but he says the electronics help him a lot also. He figures an extra 30% advantage. I tell him to just switch that stuff off and he says "no,no,no". The bike would be too much to handle without it.  [laugh]
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

It was nice seeing you on Saturday.  Enjoy todays ride...I'm hoping I'll be back on the road by next weekend.  Until then, Bella is in Will's good hands at South Seas Ducati.

I think my bike will be in Will's hands soon too.  Got a no start, no crank today up at Dillingham. Towed to BME shop. It's not a battery problem. Something else in the starter circuit gave up. Might be a starter motor but won't know until later.   :P ???

Had 12.48 volts at the battery last night at the shop. Ignition on voltage drop to 12.13 volts and 11.55 volts when pushing starter button. Could hear fuel pump run when pushing starter button but no crank. Should still be enough voltage to close the circuit and run a starter motor but what do I know?

Charged battery overnight just for the hell of it. SOB cranks over and starts this morning. Charging system is putting out 14.22 volts so this is not an alternator issue and never was.

If this is just some sort of low threshold voltage with the battery I can handle that. If it's some sort of weird ghost immobilizer issue then that will be a wild deja vue.

Good to hear that it doesn't have to go to SSD for repair, hope it's just a battery issue... [thumbsup]

The shop manual for my '07 says the ECU will not allow the starter to operate if the voltage is below 11.5 volts.  11.55 is pretty damn close to that.

That's probably it. I had swapped bikes with Brandon and rode his S1000RR out to Dillingham from Kailua. When he parked it he locked the steering and put in in Park so the parking lights were on. Sat there for 45 minutes or so like that which could have been just enough to drop the voltage to critical level. Stupid feature anyway. The battery is still original, 2.5 years old, and gets a full overnight charge every week. You'd think it could handle parking lights for that short of time but I've heard enough stories to easily believe otherwise.  I think I'm going to install a new battery this week just to take care of preventative maintenance. The old battery should still be good enough and the bike started right up 3 separate times today at the shop. No matter, it still gets a new battery. 11.5 is too close to the edge for practicality sake but that's what the modern engineers/designers are doing. F'ing idiots.
