To try and slow down the DML evacuation, they really cracked down on what people posted. Anything with CDC, DMF, etc got you a ban. In reality, it probably made things worse, cause now there are no new posts on either NMC or GMC since yesterday.
Welcome Norm.

I mentioned DMF in a response and later referenced this site in a thread and I received one infraction point for doing so. The reason given was "spamming"
Although the definition of spamming usually has an intended commercial purpose, I guess I must have been spamming for less commercials. Anyway I thought that getting disciplined for that was very insulting. And then I noticed they deleted three months worth of posts to clean out any attention to DMF.
me too :-D
I asked them to delete my profile in a thread I made in the general forum. They deleted my account and the thread.
I sent them 2 e-mails last week explaining that I can't login. I haven't heard back. And I haven't even logged in since the switch, so I couldn't have done anything wrong!
I wasn't told what I was banned for, but I think they didn't like my avatar. [cheeky]

I've posted my "Ode to the DML" in several threads. Let's see what happens!
An Ode to the wonderful DML
Ducati Monsters rule. That's why we all came to the wonderful DML.
Ugandan Monster owners, Swedish Monster owners, Ducati Monster Owners World Wide.
Can you imagine another place for Monster Owners World wide than the wonderful DML?
A world without Ducati Monsters would be a sad place, indeed.
Time after time, I find myself meeting new Ducati Monster owners.
I think a world without Ducati Monsters would be a narrow world, indeed.
Monsters are my favorite motorcycles.
On my Monster, I can meet many of the people on the wonderful DML.
Never too tired to ride, I can meet them worldwide.
Say what you want, but there will always be a Ducati Monster model.
The DML may come to an end, but Monsters will always survive.
Even without the wonderful DML, Monster owners would find a way to connect.
Regardless of the location, Ducati Monster Owners World Wide would organize.
We will never give up our Ducati Monsters
Others may switch models or brands, but not Ducati Monster Owners.
Rarely does one find such faithfulness.
Lesser brands suffer in shame.
Ducati owners live the dream.
We may have tried other brands, but now we have arrived.
I don't wnat to ride anything but my Ducati Monster.
Ducati Monsters represent the epitome of streetability and style.
Even those who can afford more expensive bikes stay with their Monsters.
Only a fool would replace a Ducati Monster.
Relentless modifications personalize your Monster for you.
Good thing we have the wonderful DML so that we can share this passion!
That. Is impressive!
Along with others i banned myself. Since i couldn't login with my old password I wasn't about to reregister. that site just plain hurts my eyes to look at with the flashing adds , not to mention the mentality of the owners so... heres to the DMF [beer]
I changed my signature to the DMF... with spaces... and they gave me a demerit point. Then I argued with the guy that it couldn't possibly be spam to advertise another web site in my signature... cause they left all the other links I had in there. Nope it is only one site that they consider as spam. They really don't like me any more. [thumbsup]
I'm puzzled but laughing about it. I didn't post anything spammish, nothing about the new site, in fact I haven't even been on the old site since discovering the new one - yea! But just as a lark and to see what was going on over there, I tried to login. Sure enough, banned, dropped, can't get in anymore. Sure makes a guy feel wanted. Oh well, yet another thing that makes this THE place to be for Monster owners. Thanks all for making this happen. Now back to good Monster stuff.

Quote
DucatiMonster.org
Launch Date: August 2002
Manufacturer Focus: Ducati
Community Members: 19,000+
Post Count: 950,000
Ducati's line of naked monsters accounts for more than half of its worldwide sales and the members of DucatiMonster.org certainly understand why. More than 19,000 members are approaching 1 million posts in this vibrant community.
Perhaps we're a bit too vibrant for them! [evil]

I believe I got a point infraction for sending this url to another member in a pm. WTF!
Yeap. Lucky you didn't get banned outright.
If you see a wandering sheep lost out in the cold over there your best(safest) bet is to shoot them a PM asking for their email. Say something innocent like "Hey need some input on an upcoming ride." or some such. Then shoot the link via email.
PM links will be stripped and you'll probably be banned.
i haven't been banned or anything. And don't plan on doing anything to get banned. I just don't visit there any more.
I may if any info that I need is not found here. which is not very likely.
This reminds of of when the split between i-club and NASIOC happened. I club made a new site and had a few "hardcore" members went over and posted up the address on NASIOC. People applauded i-club for being less commercial and more like the old club. I-club has one third the population and one third the valuable information. And has since been sold and is chock full of ads. But, both serve their purposes.
I hope the DMF does well. And gets back to what the DML was.
I'm just a welder who can barely use a computer, but it seems like a poor way to increase your membership. I recognize some of the banned names & that alone make me wonder if I should even visit the DML site. I know Jeff H isn't in charge anymore, but I still have a great deal of respect for him & I would guess that he's as unhappy about all this as others. Maybe we'll see him over here or maybe he's just disgusted with the whole thing.

Norm, I was checking in every day or two, but now I'll reduce that to maybe once a week. I really can't stand to look at what they've done to the site, but people still send me PM's, because my signature says something about having left. And I no longer receive notification of anything from that site.
Before I realized that putting ducatimonsterworldwide.org in a PM was not acceptable, I sent a few responses to people who asked. What they received looked like ******************.org in the messages. I've answered a few others indicating to add "worldwide" in front of the dot in the current web site name. Who knows if you get minus points for doing that?
I've never been banned from a forum and don't intend to start now. But The Old Board (TOB) is dead now as far as I'm concerned.
People who sell Ducati-related stuff, like you, and like the various Ducati dealers, probably need to keep visiting TOB and remain as friendly as possible there. You'll have to make that decision.
I was Infractionated, then infractionated for asking why I was being Infractionated and, of course for mentioning this Forum... and that video but don't seem to have been banned yet.
I very much resent the fact that I was effectively barred until I reregistered, a slightly cynical way making me agree to a different (or a differentl interpreted) set of rules, not what I originally signed up for. It seems to me that the DML has simply evolved, market forces and business interests are at work. I know plenty of people who wouldn't like Walmart to move into their community but would probably still shop there. I'll be looking in from time to time.
Although the spirit is diminished.
As far as irritating those in charge is concerned it's what members of motorcycle clubs have always done, it's in the blood. Consternation to the establishment.

That's the same description of the website that was up before the same IIRC...
I got demerits for "SPAM" which means I had the URL to this site in my signature. Then when I argued with them that the only way they could call that a real policy, was to delete all URL references to any site from the entire DML... they said I was being beligerent. I argued that they were enforing a "no compete" policy and not a SPAM policy. So... they banned me... although it says, "Banned till 5-18-2008" I wonder why I only got a week and not a lifetime ban. Anyhow, I requested refund of my membership fee for them breaching my membership agreement and contract. We will see how that goes. ;D

You guys have totally f**k-up what was a beautiful fun forum. Please remove me from your now crappy cookie-cutter website and mailing list.
VS will never understand the culture of the Ducati Monster. Too bad you had to go and destroy the DML to learn this lesson. We are not your ordinary Japanese bike or HD owners. There are reasons why we ride the Monster that is beyond your creed and business model. I bet none of your staff even own Monsters. - Whatever. You suck VS!
RIP old DML :( And long live the new DMF; Which I'm telling every Ducati owner I know about. I will be removing all of my old DML stickers and throwing out my DML T-shirts. It would be a sin to advertise/wear your product in public.
I still check in over there sometimes, but anyone who knows me knows that I'm not into kissing up for business. I try to be honest & speak what's on my mind, but at the same time, be polite or say nothing at all if I can't say something nice about someone. The King is dead, Long live the King!!
Megadeth fan I presume?
DMF vs. DML = Holy Wars
Actually isn't it from MacBeth or Henry the 8th, some Shakespeare play as I recall. Obviously it has its roots in actual monarchy culture, apparently it started in France as, Le Roi est mort. Vive le Roi! But I am reluctant to give the french too much credit for anything. Oh wait Jacques Chirac is no longer in power, Viva la France!
I confess that I have not heard enough Megadeath to form an opinion about them, more of Nine Inch Nails sort of listener.

That is a fundamental flaw. they are trying to corner a market that cannot be cornered.
"lets buy all the forums and stuff em full of adds"
does not work the same as buying airtime on TV. sure people can turn the channel, but their bound to see another add.
with the internet, if they make the beast with two backs up our forum, we move. start again. with help from a few tech savy peeps it's easy to set up a board.
TV stations are tougher.
they have badly misjudged their market and they will lose lots of money because of it.

I disagree with your TV airtime analogy.
Here's why:
Well, not a lot of forums have a close community like we do. VS has been successful, very successful at buying forums, making a change and raking in the cash.
They just didn't listen to all the warnings about changing the DML. Now they know not to make the beast with two backs with us [laugh]
All they need to do to be successful is fool the advertisers.

That's exactly the tactic to take. They have placed themselves broadly with the express purpose of being middlemen for advertiser access. It's those advertisers that are paying their checks, and those dumb enough to be paying members of a VS site. In order to hurt VS, all opposed to them from all the sites these cyber-Borg have assimilated must go after those advertisers. Make it fully known to them that no purchase of product or services will happen as long as they have a relationship with VS. Then back up the threat by NOT buying. You have to make them hurt first. Given enough losses they should seperate from VS. Ultimately VS will run out of money and either be sold themselves or fold. I'd love to see them dry up and blow away.
I saw all the *************.org posts before I stopped lurking around there. If this site was paying them money they'd allow the links. As long as they're making a dime off anything/everything that goes on there they are happy. You all should have easily seen last year what was going to happen and removed content. But you were hopeful and they strung you along till they got around to seizing control. I do love how they make a cursory post about being enthusiasts and owners of whatver brand the board caters too. Yet those new profiles never contributed before or after, as far as i know, anything other than statements of party line and attacks of any internal critics.
VS, the Virtual Suppository of advertisements for once vibrant communities.

Same exact story here.
What some of you guys don't seem to understand is that some of those advertisers over on the DML signed a contract and are in it for the period of their contract. By you telling those advertisers that you will be avoiding them wont make any friends, or attract them to advertise here after their contracts expire.
Why would you want to become an advertiser here if our members are as hostile as the current members of TOB?
Food for thought.

Most of you have heard of Chris...many have bought from him.
He's a business man. He's not a business like VS. I doubt he likes what they did to a place he contributed so heavily to both in sponsorship and expertise. Don't blame honest business men for trying to succeed with their business.
If you want them to support this place you need to support them for who they are, how they run their business, and not where they advertise.

Interesting that some over there dare to compare that site with the first amendment... That the first amendment does not guaranty free speech...
I say that the supreme courts opinion in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964) does in fact guaranty the right...
As the opinion of the honorable Justice Brennan and supporting opinions of Justice Black and Justice Goldberg (Justice Douglas joined each concurring opinion)
Thus we consider this case against the background of a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open, and that it may well include vehement, caustic, and sometimes unpleasantly sharp attacks on government and public officials. (Brennan)
Although the Sedition Act was never tested in this Court, the attack upon its validity has carried the day in the court of history. (Brennan)
An unconditional right to say what one pleases about public affairs is what I consider to be the minimum guarantee of the First Amendment. (Black)

Food for thought.
T
True.
A better approach would be to let the advertisers know that they are being represented poorly on the VS DML. Their ads are displayed in an annoying fashion, like the stupid ads that walk across the screen on some TV channels (I noticed some channels have stopped this after complaints from viewers). Let them know they are advertising on a site that is hostile to its own members.
I still think we should all chip in a buy some ad banner pace on the DML and put up a link to the DMF. After all they allow links to any site that pays them.
The best approach IMO? Ignore the DML. I have purchased stuff from some DML vendors - like Chris at CA Cycleworks - and will do so in future. I'm not interested in boycotting good vendors simply because they advertise on DML. That's ridiculous.
There has been a divorce. Let's move on . . . .

That's the view I have of him. Just the comments on that front page clearly show his goals and motivations. Advertiser money.
"However, today I blog to share my thoughts and experiences with others. To some degree, I miss my opportunity to write the "Publisher's Letter" in Modified Magazine, and to give my own commentary on business, life, and everything going on in our World. Today, I enjoy talking about our latest ventures, and keeping family and friends updates on the successes of VerticalScope. It has been a great way to re-connect with many old contacts, and often times gain the chance to work together again. At the end of the day, this blog is my own little place on the web where I can brag, criticize, spell wrong, and babble on forever. Nobody has to read it, yet my traffic has been steadily increasing, and the blog now earns me enough advertising revenue to support my morning and afternoon Snapple addiction.
Such the cyber-ho, if it'll make him a buck that's what he'll do. Very 'Metro' looking. How long till he addresses himself like Trump?
"The Rob, high king and lord of all that is VS has subjugated yet another community. All are commanded to sing his praises and tote his commercial lines."
Why does it feel like an old Star Trek episode?
Episode Title: 'The Return of the Archons'
Episode Number: 123
Synopsis: "The Enterprise pursues a missing starship's crew on a planet ruled by a being named Landru, which takes over their minds to make them part of a passive, complacent society."

From the evergeek story.
QuoteAs evidenced by the booming success of broad-scope community-based web properties such as YouTube and FaceBook, Laidlaw is keenly aware of just how important communities are to the web and its future. "Community is the heart of the web," he says. "Without interaction and discussion and without people getting really getting involved, the internet is nothing more than a newspaper."
Though users participating in community-based web sites can be said to do so for two reasons, i.e. people seeking out information and people seeking people with similar interests, Laidlaw notes the common denominator is enthusiasm. He describes VerticalScope users as "like minded individuals, people with similar interests," and notes, "People who share an enthusiasm are driven to share information and expertise."
When we hit 2000 members someone should write a short article called "The Ducati Monster Forum Story" that we can post links to on other motorcycle enthusiast message boards, you know, as inspiration to free their community.

I think we need a Wiki entry.
I guess they finally had enough of my questioning, they deleted a thread I contributed to asking how to find other forums, one that I started and had over 500 views in about 5 days and then one I started last night around 11. Another instance of their right hand not knowing what their left hand is doing...
Their server must be busy sending out all the form letter spam in the hope of bringing back the traffic. I hope the advertisers are noticing less people and seeing little/no returns on that expense. or
Topic: My Suspension is not working right
My Post: Suspension troubles? Spring on over to a real Forum......
and so on.
And they banned me, I was so proud of my sillyness [thumbsup]
This forum is a good place to talk about Monsters and Monster related issues.
TOB became a good place to bait the establishment. A well behaved motorcycle club - give me strength.
Somehow the whole episode reminds me of National Lampoons Animal House.
Anyway, It looks like I was cheeky once too often and got sent out of the class. It was fun for a while.

I didn't actually get banned but...I was looking around that "other site" and a friend of mine that rides a DUC caught me. He then left without ever saying a word.

You are a light weight, so I am not concerned.
I just tried checking in on the DML and received this message:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
I guess someone is checking when we give hints when people ask where everyone went. I figured I could help out on the DucatiMOB local area site once in a while. Oh well. That gives me a better reason to never go back.
My favorite thing about VS and what they did? When their marketing folks contact vendors and ask us to advertise on their websites. My first question to them always is: "why would I want to advertise on your website(s) using your services when you *BANNED* many of us from the website(s) themselves?". (or blocked the IP address so some of us couldn't access?) There are quite a few of us that have told them to take a "flying hike" due to how stupid their actions were.
I still want to create the VS t-shirts with the big red "NOT sign" over it. I think it would be very highly appropriate to wear at motorcycle events.
