Time to start planning...
Saturday looks to be a (huge) group ride. Sunday has competition and prizes. Hmm, both sound fun. So who's in? Which day (or both)? Who's got an interesting route to Shepherdstown?

---- UPDATE #1 ----
When: Sunday, September 26 @ 9:30 AM, stands up at 10:00 AM
Where: Starbucks @ 10116 River Rd, Potomac, MD 20854-4949 (intersection of River Rd and Falls Rd)
Who: Those interested in a group ride up to the 'fest
I can't go this year - out of town to wedding stuffs. As far as ways there

Looks like they have a pic of your bike from last year.
Planning to go, who's up?
They do? I know it's in the background of a couple shots, but didn't know there was a direct one.

Hmm apparently I clicked on all the wrong thumbs. Oh well, no showing of the new goods this year...
I'm 85% down for Saturday group ride, assuming it's not horrible weather and that my Protune ECU remap goes well on the 16th when it arrives [thumbsup]. Yuu, you going? I've no idea where it is and it'd be awesome to hook up with someone in Shirlington Village and go from there.
I'll be out of town. But Julie doesn't live far off from shirlington.
I believe I have to work t hat weekend due to year end closing !
Ian did you win your category? I should have really entered as well! lol
That was a good day!
I know a few nice roads up to Harpers Ferry, if anyone's interested in a group ride.
Yes! Hopefully I'll have my Duc back by then. <cough cough Roger cough cough>
Julie, if you end up going, would you mind meeting up and me following you there? I've never been there before, so I'd rather ride with someone who has. I'm in Shrilington Village btw.
I propose this:
When: Sunday, September 26 @ 9:30 AM, stands up at 10:00 AM
Where: Starbucks @ 10116 River Rd # A, Potomac, MD 20854-4949 (intersection of River Rd and Falls Rd)
Who: Those interested in a group ride up to the 'fest
Meeting at this Starbucks is probably most convenient as it's right off 495, it's easy to get to from DC, and it's on the way. Massimo and/or I can lead the ride as we're familiar with enough roads in that direction. Plus we have yuu's route from last year.
Folks in Alexandria/Arlington (like Julie, obsidian gt, and myself) can rendezvous earlier (say: 9:00 AM) in Shirlington and ride to Potomac as a group.
[thumbsup]
Nice! I'm in.
In.
Just a bump to let folks know I updated the OP with the latest plan.
bump for reminder ;)
Quote from: Julie on September 19, 2010, 01:45:16 AM
Nah, you just like bumping people... ;)
Bad habits since I started driving in Italy. Give a bunch of 18-19 year olds manky old cars to drive around and shenanigans are bound to happen!
Bumping into each other, lifting a friend's car onto the sidewalk (no Buicks in Italy, cars are smaller than a Metro) were among the "innocent" pranks we'd play on each other.
So it was 9:30 at Starbucks... Not 9. Well balls, the sights are not bad at all ;)

Mph noooo ... I just wanted to check out the roads :-[
I have my 'special' moments, like when I thought it was the 31st of Febuary (and no, it wasn't even a leap year), or when I asked a friend what was the date on his birthday (which I had completely forgotten about...)
Back to the roads, Harpers Ferry Road is awesome!

We were out there yesterday and today. [thumbsup]
I went last year and saw quite a few bikes I cannot have therefore I shall be riding in B-Mo.
Besides my ass cannot take another dose of VA or Wva for that matter.
You could swing a Super Duke. ;D

We need to teach you how to duct tape your ass closed. W/VA types don't know about duct tape and are easily defeated by it.
After securing your ass, you must secure your purdy mouth. Again, duct tape.
Maybe some tucks-tape but no ducttape.
BTW, the ride for Saturday, starting at DucPond, is a good route. - Gene
I think I will be able to make this. Since I live in DC, I would also be down to meet up with anyone to ride to the Potomac meetup spot.

I'm sure I could hear your pipes actually since my place faces the 4th street side. I do at times think I hear a Ducati going by and take a look down. My debaffled SC Projects are pretty loud too, so I'm sure it upsets some folks.
If you wanna meet and ride out on Sunday, let me know.
Ok, so what's the agenda now that Brian is no longer with us?
Meet, greet and go ;-)
I rode up there Sunday intentionally (ahem) to test the route (yea, that's right!) that Ian posted and I'm willing to lead. Aside from closures (and detours) on Point of Rocks Rd and Harpers Ferry Rd it was all pretty good for me.

Ok, so just to make sure nothing has changed, tuanogus, Julie, and myself are still going to meet up in Shirlington Village (no one said where, by the way. Not that it is that big, I'm guessing right in the main little strip with the restaurants) Sunday at 0900 and ride to meet the rest of the crew at 0930 at starbucks, right?

Yea, good luck finding each other in that maze!! [cheeky] 696 and Chemico should be riding up together from downtown DC.
I'll be at the Starbucks in Potomac (Falls Rd and River Rd) at 9:30 (ogling the ladies), look for the awesome looking canary yellow M900.

K St -> Whitehurst -> Canal -> Clara Barton -> Mac Arthur -> Falls. Make a right on River Rd and you're there [thumbsup]

Don't know about Brian anymore, but I'll be down at Caribou Coffee a little about eight thirty or so.
Got it, I'll be there. So what is with everyone changing their avatars and names anyway?
Chemico, did you go by my building tonight around 8:45? I saw a black monster and a rider with a red jacket. Definitely sounded like termis. This probably belongs in the CAM Spottings thread, lol.
Twas I. [evil]
Nice. Even from the 12th floor I could hear those termis from at least a block away. I immediately knew it was a Monster and when I looked down you blasted around some car right in front of my building. I said to myself, "yup, that must be him" lol.

Someone posted a pic of me cos-playing so I decided to use it as my avatar, after that all hell broke loose...
so Massimo...the ride out to MotoFest...what kind of pace you plannin?...I ask because my sister with her new to her '01 M750 will be riding with me and she is still getting acclimated and I am trying to decide whether to ride our own route to be down with her comfort of pace, or if she'll be okay within our ranks...
I'm thinking a pretty chill pace. I don't mind waiting for people tho, so everyone should ride their own pace. I know some roads better than others, so I'll pick up the pace a bit, but I can stop at every major intersection or turn.
COOOL COOL...I think we'll try and hook up at the Strosniders parking lot with ya...
For anyone using my route. Be aware that the sections off of Old Georgtown tend to be damp. Amd there's some big rolls on Harpers ferry road. One that's got enough profile that you will catch air much of the time. Nothing dramatic, but keep it in mind.
Chill pace...
Too bad the Katoom is out at the Pond.

Side question... anyone know of a way to load a map made on Google Maps into an Android 1.5 phone? 2.0 has the neato Navigation app but 1.5 is a bastard child.
I will probably in the back takin it easy as well, at least on the trip down. Lucky for me I got a shiny new nail in my back tire, so I'll be rocking a brand new tire in the back [bang]

Monitor your tire pressure (once a day, not every 10 minutes) and you'll be fine. Did a whole track day with a nail in my rear tire, didn't have any problems. [moto]

Don't kid yourself about 2.0...I just got updated to froyo and still don't have the functionality that I want. You can load a map in 2.0, but you can't use it to navigate. I mean seriously, google makes all of the components...make them talk to each other!!!!!

I'm lazy and don't feel like sorting through all the previous posts ;D
I know the Potomac meet is at 9:30, stands up at 10.
What time is everyone leaving Shirlington though. I'm assuming like 9 or so, but I didn't see a time stated in the earlier posts.
I have a couple friends that might come out and meet us there, so I wanted to let them know what time they should be there.
I would assume 35-40 mins from Shirlington to Potomac depending on your pace and lights...
just saying as a general bit of inflomation...
I would've chanced it, but from last night til this morning it lost over 15 psi, so I took it to get a new back tire. So I'll just have to go easy on the trip down.
696DCrider, I believe we are leaving Shirlington NLT 9:00. I'll be at caribou at 8:30.
Okay, thanks [thumbsup]

Take it easy for the fist 50-100 miles or so and you'll be good.

Then, I made the mistake of going to my shop.......had a lot to get done. Just got home.
Ducpond is closed tomorrow and Monday. [bang]
I may be down for a trip to Winchester late this week depending.......
No worries, I just got back from riding with Lars. I called Donnie this morning, and they had not received the rear tire for the SD anyhow, but said it would be there by Tuesday. Let me know when you'll be able to get out there again, and I'll buy you some more scrapple. [thumbsup]
Anybody going tomorrow have the wrench for adjusting the rear wheel on a single-sided Ducati that I could borrow? Finally got around to putting the new chain on and I can't adjust the back. ASR = Anti Slip Regulation
ESP = Electronic Stabilization Program
they are sort of interchangable in terms of technically speaking when it comes to my experience with VW's.

It's not raining in Shirlington, but there is a rather large, almost stationary front just to the west. Sheperdstown is most likely a wash as far as riding goes.

I guess you never learned the MacGyver values of using trash bags and duct tape with your swiss army knife to rig up and use as poor mans rain gear.
Huh...guess I ought to read those new replies when it tells me that something else has been posted. [roll]

Worst of it seems on its way out, I say meet at Starbucks at 11:30 and head out as soon as everyone gets there.
I'm down for a chill ride. Y'all know I gots more inertia than most of ya so I don't stop so well on wet roads. [moto]

But if the rider bike combo is taken into account, I got you beat if you're less than 170 lbs. Too much [bacon]!!
Think I'm out. Weather doesn't look like it's going to clear out much, and I'm feeling like a little girl. [thumbsdown]
Actively precipitating at my place. I'm out.
Next weekend looks beautiful...sunny and 70. Looking to ride both days. Anyone up for Massimo's route just for giggles and grunts either Sat or Sun?
Next weekend is Donnie's demo day. HELLO MV!!! [drool]
Damn! I forgot about that!
I'M IN!
I was wrong -- those roads dried up quickly. I shoulda gone on the ride. I need a kicking-self emoticon.

That's right! And not just for you! ;D
Met Zooom and the ladies at Starbucks and we had a nice ride out, we met Obsidian (aka Cool Greg) there and rode back together.
Good times (for us) :P :P :P
You went to the Motofest? I thought that part of the plan was out.
I went for a Lars run minus Lars and the rest of the gang. it as absolutely beautiful. Nice and cool and the roads were mostly dry. A little traffic, but it's easy to pass when you're a party of one.
Thanks guys for a great ride back! Very nice route. Hope to meet up again soon and find some more roads.
Greg

I had a good time, nice roundtrip of 800 miles, to get there, but never got a drop of rain on me - so much for a Gene Hunt ride means you get wet. All the way up to Coudersport, Pa for overnight, then over to PA Grand Canyon, and back down to Clarion Hotel last night, all back roads of course, good food, good band, and some adult beverages. Then today at Motofest, up early to do a little cleaning off of 800 miles of bugs and road grime, Plexus, help from Nora, coffe, and some rags good enough for the situation. Then a mile down to the park, very nice collection of bikes, you would have to go back a few years to have that quality of older bikes. The BBQ food was good although I miss the ole gals serving itelian food. Got back to Reston around 4, not a drop of rain since I left Friday morning. Thanks to anyone who voted for my M900, 39K miles and she still cleans up pretty good I guess. Time to retire her from those long multi-day trips and keep her for day trips. Later - Gene
Gene, good to see you there! And congratulations on your prize!! [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
Too bad we got there late and didn't have enough time go enjoy the views, the food was pretty good, but then again I was starving ;)
I need to clean up the M900 and participate next year.
was good riding with you Massimo...good route and nice lead, and sorry if I was a bad influence on my lead down Thurston...
Greg/Obsidian...nice meeting you...BTW, the girls asked me if you prefferred to sweep or what? They said you could have passed em by if you wanted....they can hold their own no problem....they just go their own pace and comfort.

Nice meeting the ladies. Too bad for those who didn't come on the ride [cheeky] [cheeky]
I didn't know the ride was still going to happen yesterday :(
The impression that I had gotten was that everyone had given up. I was going through moto withdrawal by the end of the day. Now the weather still sucks.

It was great to meet you guys too. I really have no preference, I just figured that was my place since I was riding a "new fangled Monster"! No seriously, I don't have much experience group riding and had none riding with you guys, so I figured it would be best for me to hang out in back and pick up all the Duc droppings. There were times I wanted to pass, because I kept running up on the girls in the corners (sorry about that by the way, I wasn't trying to be a jerk!), but I didn't know how they felt about someone blowin by them. Next time, I'll stick right behind you guys [thumbsup] And if the "bad influence on my lead down Thruston" is in reference to when we were haulin balls down that straight after the stop sign, no apology necessary, that was [clap]

Thanks you she cleans up pretty well for 39K miles and the ~700 mile roundtrip I took to get there. Yes please do participate next year, I wish more participated, it's a chance to show off, especially if you actually ride. I've got a couple of projects for this winter, not sure how they are going to turn out, but God willing I'll be there next year and hopefully I'll see you there. - Gene

as far as group riding goes...the generally accepted thoughts on the subject are found as part of a wonderful article called "The Pace". -> http://www.mad-ducati.com/ShowPage2.php?PageName=Articles/ThePace.html (http://www.mad-ducati.com/ShowPage2.php?PageName=Articles/ThePace.html) <- but it is cool...they were/are fine...and as always, if unsure of something...just simply ask....there are lots of little innuendoes that come with group riding that aren't said, but get done, such as staggering, hand signals, passing etiquette, etc......so if unsure, since you haven't done much/any group riding...do ask...
as far as the road you are referencing...that wasn't Thurston...that was Lily Pons...but that is another story for another time...

Hah! So I'm not the only one who has a 620 that's trying to dismantle itself! And Massimo thought it was because I was being mean to my Italian mistress.

Nope - I think mine simply wanted a new housing for the cluster so it left a good chunk of it on Lily Pons.
