Title: Concourse d'Elegance time again Sunday, 18th September
Post by: braando on August 18, 2011, 02:08:23 PM
Thought i would kick start everyones memory, its that time again........Sunday, 18th September.
Last year was a cracker of a day, looking forward to this year as well.......
http://www.docnsw.org.au/cde.shtml (http://www.docnsw.org.au/cde.shtml)
Anyone half interested in Ducati's should call in for a look.
Last year was an interesting weekend, on the Saturday prior to the event we went on the Five Ferrys Ride. Remember    ?  hmmmm.....?  Someone stole one of the ferries that day and we went bush, compliments of our fearless navigator, our Garmin Gov's ears would have been burning late that afternoon..... [roll]
I heard a reliable rumour that a certain OZMO member on the northern beaches is entering, and has been working late into the night at his factory, with the roller doors locked down..........just happened to be passing by, (yet again) and managed to find this outside  the factory.......

tell me guys, is this event judged like a traditional concourse where factory style bikes with factory style mods are the flavour? i was asked if i was getting my bike ready for it at a local shop the other day, but my first thought was it wasnt suited to me especially with my 100:1 ride to wash ratio it all sounds like too much cleaning!! haha. is there a ride involved?

A few years back they changed the judging of the Monster category to entice more entrants because practically all Monsters are modified. 'Traditional' concours judging is far more relevant for the hysterical categories (bevels, singles, etc). So mods will be accepted, recognised and judged for what they are ... cleanliness is an ever-present criteria though.

Be mindful that mileage (or kilometreage) is also a major component of the judging (or has been) ... so maybe Big will ride his bike through a puddle and take out the category ???

Regardless of whether you are 'in it to win it' it is still worthwhile to try and get there with as many bikes as we can. Sometimes people meet up 'en-route' but we don't normally organise a ride beforehand (some take it far too serious for that).

Hi Mark & Julie, welcome back.....     as for not normally organising a ride beforehand........let me refresh some memories here. Last years Concourse, the day before we did the Five ferries Ride.........   [roll]...........  a "slight"deviation ( how's the family btw Craig ? )  took us on some dusty terrain......that was a late night for yours truly.......

Not us of course....but this was the road.......and this bend is called  "Goldys Corner"  if i remember rightly
(http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac55/braando54/P1000754.jpg) p.s.  can't wait till we "catch up"again Mmick,...mate,....buddy.........unsympathetic bastard    [thumbsup]    "what a guy"   [coffee]

I read Clint's request as 'a ride on the day of' ... as in the Concours is only part of a bigger Ozmo day.

thanks for clearing that up betty! forgive my ignorance, but are you saying low milage it good or bad for the leniency they will give my bike? i have 9000kms on an 02 bike.

I think they're suggesting that the judging panel prefers a bike that has been ridden and still maintained to a high level...
So less likely to award someone who buys a new bike and parks it in their lounge room in a hermetically sealed bag.

That's the one. But it is only one of the judging criteria ... and I think they bracket the mileage. In the past it has also been used as the gamebreaker ... eg. two bikes score similar points but the one with greater kms gets the gong.

Sounds very much like our Teff.
to get the miles up he puts the monster on the paddock stand in the lounge room and runs it for a few hundred Klm every week [laugh]

The lesson is that black fabric dye works well on belt covers, sprocket cover, and indicators.  On beer trays and side panels, not so much.

NNNOOOOOOOOOO!
The bike was looking so nice the other week.

Spray them or something!
You can use my stock bear tray and side panels if you want. (beer tray is already off and the side panels are a quick unbolt.. one of them is already stickerless!)

You're not allowed to pull out now, not after all the 2V rivalry we've seen going on.

p.s. - might be worth a post in the mods forum if you haven't already. (disregard - of course you have)
p.p.s - the gold lettering on the black box in the back of your photo looks like the same bloody font that gollum used for his precious.

Different plastic think it is abs on the tray and side covers you better race down to autobahn and grab a rattle can of vht paint and plastic primer  [thumbsup]

Awww, you guys are too sweet.  Thanks for the offer, but so far (I've done one of the side covers, and am part way through doing the beer tray) they come up nicely when I remove the blooming (and the textured surface) with 240 grit emery, then work my way through 400, 600, and 1200 grit.  They look different to the factory finish, but not as different as they would if I painted them.

Actually I quite like the result.  And they're just right for making molds from...

I've always wanted to try my hand at carbon fibre.  These pieces are just right to replicate.  If I wanted to make carbon copies, I'd start by making a mold of the ones I have in fibreglass, then polishing up the surface of the mold and laying carbon cloth in that.  By removing the texture from the original pieces, I make it a lot easier to get the mold surface (and hence the final bits) nice and shiny.

Just wondering where "precious" on the top of the tank, plus fifty kilos of tacky carbon are in terms of originality.

Not sayin Precious is original in any form. :(

Just put that up for those who think they will not be competitive with a stock bike, actually they have the advantage if it is a clean early model  showing little wear and tear and some good klms. [thumbsup]

Yes Heather, they did well......one minor problem though........it is 6.30 am here.........I have already had a txt msg with photo attached this morning from that rather rotund, Mona Vale member gloating about his win, derogitary remarks about my bike plus Des's (he sais it has gone downhill since you got it Des) , plus demanding celebrity status from all members........AND   txt's way into last night............yawn yawn.......... [coffee]

It is refreshing how humble Mr RobS is about his winning something yesterday...............can't quite remember
what it was he won ? think it was a sympathy vote that got him across the line from what I have heard.
The scary thing is he also got a bunch of stickers as well  [puke]
Rob I have an old Chinese proverb for you

[beer] THE SUN SHINES ON A DOG'S ARSE AT LEAST ONCE IN ITS LIFE  ;D

Please please Des.........I'm totally over dogs for quite a while..........Rumour leaking out from DOC officials yesterday, was that the 4V judge found what looked like dog fur caught up in my chain and sprocket.... [bang]    ...Kharma maybe.....?      [roll] [roll] [roll]

Guilty till proven innocent i say........!        [coffee]

On a more serious note, congratulations again to all of you OZMO winners..........

Brian mate, you really need a haircut and a shave.  You've really let yourself go.
