I think I'm amassing a pretty solid resume to be second in command of the Deal King Empire.
First there was this...

1979 Ford F-700 with a Ford Motorsports crate 460 under the hood with 8,000 miles on it and a Holley fuel injection kit and MSD ignition. Pulls like a freight train.
Only things I can tell that it needs are a new hose for the wheel lift and new kingpins.
Paid $3,000 for it. 8)
Looks like a useful truck. How many miles on the chassis?
It's a buyers market around here so while that seems like a good price it doesn't seem that far under priced to me.
Congrats.
If the digger came with it you'd be a shoe in.
Otherwise you're off to an impressive start :)
Good score!
Chassis has 86,000 on it. It originally had a crane mounted on it.
Hence, high hours on the engine, which was replaced with the crate engine not too long ago, but very little wear and tear on the rest of the truck.
Ducatamount, where are you that's a buyer's market? Have you priced rollbacks with a 6.5 ton body? I haven't been able to find a used body for under $5,000. Let alone one with a truck attached to it.

No, the mini-excavator wasn't part of the deal.
However, I did get a free pair of vise-grips which function as the driver's door window crank. :P
That just makes it cooler :D
You got a deal, engine is worth that alone....

Restaurant closed down.
Indigents moved in under the addition on the rear of the building and eventually set fire to their crack den/bum orgy.
I'm doing demolition as part of the remodel.
Building's owner wanted the tank gone.

My brother is a builder with a lot of business in Reno/Remodel. According to him, this is VERY common when there is something old in the way of progress. Owners just want the stuff GONE. He has taken home untold appliances, sinks, cabinets, doors, etc... in perfect condition. He either gives them to family, or sells them on Craigs list.
I'm still waiting for him to come across my new slate counter tops...... ;D

Yeah, I'm starting a residential job in about a week. Total demolition. Nothing left except a blank slate of a lot.
Unfortunately the owner is donating all of the brand new stainless steel appliances (cooktop, 2 ovens, dishwasher), granite countertops, pedestal sinks in bathrooms, etc. to Habitat for Humanity. Oh well. No big scores on this one. (Except maybe one. I won't elaborate now, so as not to jinx myself. You'll definitely be hearing about it here if it comes to fruition.)

I think your'e the deal Prince and the contender to the throne. The king is getting old and feeble, a foolish old man who couldn't see a deal coming if it hit him in the face. Strike now and take what is yours! Then you will be king of the deals, and all your subjects will be in awe.
Until one day a young prince comes of age and begins to view your deals with a critical eye.....

I could waste time building something to sell or I could waste time existing.
Time is lost regardless of the activity, so time spent becomes moot.
This works better if you're a stay-at-home dad who has no income other than change the wife drops in the car.

Oh, you have no idea what I'm up against.
I have about 15 years of my father's hoarding that I'm trying to sort through and get him to part with right now.
Like 300 sheets of styrofoam insulation on pallets. He thinks they're worth something, but the fact that I showed him half a dozen listings on craigslist where people can't find anyone to buy the shit for less than half of retail made no difference.
Oh I'm glad he collects that stuff. I have a few sheets here I want him to have. it takes up too much space in my curbside garbage can.
Guess what I picked up for less than half of retail?

And Travis
I'm really disappointed in myself.
But in the spirit of full disclosure on my Vice Deal King application, I feel I need to share my failures as well.
I had a chance to buy a 22 ton excavator for less than $12,000. Has 5,200 hours on it and a new engine with only 370 hours.
But I couldn't get there to pick it up soon enough (it's 4 hours down the interstate and requires a lowboy to move it), so it was sold to someone else. :(
Nice toolbox! [thumbsup]

Since when is getting a good deal hinged upon actually selling the item? The rest of you have happily posted up things you've bought for your own use-I don't see the difference.

List is $5860. You said less than half of retail. That would range anywhere from free to $2929.99.
If you got it for $29xx.xx and sold it to make $500+ then good deal. If you paid that same amount to keep it for yourself, bad deal.

So now, yesterday is today.
Anyway, here it is...
Pulled it out of the woods, stuck a battery and some fuses in it, bolted up the starter that was jammed in on top of a motor mount, pressure washed off years of dirt and mildew, and it fired right up, shifts great and runs down the road as smooth as can be.

Funny you should mention that.
When my buddy told me about it and that it'd been sitting for a long time, the first thing I said was "how big of a rat orgy does it look like there was in it?"
To my amazement, the only thing I found was a nest that had been built in an airbox upstream of the air cleaner that acts as a muffler for the intake system.

It's also late enough that's it's a 4L60E, so there's even more value in parts.
When I bought it, my thinking was that if either the engine or transmission were good, I could pull the functional one and sell it and come out ahead. Then sell other miscellaneous stuff like the rear axles, tires and wheels, etc. Then take what's left and sell it for scrap.
When it started up and moved under its own power, that was just the icing on the cake. ;D

I know most of you won't know what this is. . .
It's a live tool for a lathe I just bought. I can lock the spindle or rotate it as it's own axis and use this tool to mill shapes on the faces of parts (or drill holes, tap them etc) It's double sided and since this lathe has a second spindle, one tool station on the turret will work on each side.
$5400 for a new one (and I just bought 2 at that with the machine :o )
$400 on ebay. Brand new, never used but has a dent in the side from shipping. Shouldn't matter at all.
Couldn't find your own Deal King thread?

Pull things apart?
Any time two things get pulled apart, at least one of them is getting pulled
toward something else.
(If you were high right now, that would've just blown your mind.)
Too much philosophy, more machine pictures.
Can it pull that paint job off the Willys ? :P

[laugh] Not a chance.
Nate, to actually answer your question...
I have an old Mack DM800 that'll hopefully be getting restored in the next year.
The winch will be getting mounted behind the cab.
Here's a pic of one that belongs to somebody else to give you an idea of the scale of the truck.

No, I'll just take it to antique truck shows.
It's serial number 2.
Number 1 is in a museum.

I just went and bought back a canoe I sold to a neighbor almost 20 years ago...
for 1/3 the price.
Thing has been stored inside the whole time. I don't think he ever used it.
No paddles though. They disappeared somewhere. :P
Paddles grow legs if left in the dark too long.
Now you're ready for shit creek.
