It's really relative.

A 1971 Pinto would be close to 12K today based on inflation.

What's really scary is it was a better car than some of the 'technology' they offer today. :-*

We'll of course , but the Pinto was a bad bad reference.  :D

Nope...

They were never built to be crashed...you're supposed to drive them. :-*

There was a time when we didn't need so much protection from ourselves.

Minimum wage when I was in HS was $1.50, it's over $10 now. It's all relative.

$1.50 seems high to me. Were the war bonds subsidizing all that riveting?
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

I started at a buck an hour, and could get at least as much grease on me as the truck.

It really is all relative.

The internet has no record of when I was 16.

on my first job, I made 140/month working 48hrs/week, so do the math and this was without, social security, education tax or income tax deductions ... about $1.45/hr

This is all very discouraging.  I'm in the market for a truck whenever I move out of this city, so I look online from time to time to see what F150s and Tacomas are going for.  Not cheap.  What happened?  I was under the impression that a realitively basic tacoma or ranger or whatever was pretty affordable.  Was this never the case?

Oh, and my first official adult job was a whopping $7.25/hr working in a guitar factory, which makes me feel like a sultan compared to you guys.   ;D
