In the US Clarkson can torture the production team all he wants.

The BBC already had a "dream team", which is funny cause I would have laughed if they had originally described Clarkson, Hammond and May as such when they began working together.

Then again, I didn't listen to VH prior to SH joining them. Prefer his voice to DLR.

Top Gear without Clarkson won't be Top Gear.
Where else would they find a man who didn't give a s__t what any body else thought, dressed unsuitable for TV, and knew how to drive and evaluate cars honestly.

Could this be a ploy to get the guys a break and eventually increase viewers?

It's a little odd: producer gets host really drunk, host argues with producer, host hits producer......  Were the producers expecting the hosts to get drunk and behave like gentlemen?
