To be fair, the sign said "No Swimming Alligators", which says to me the water contains no gators.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Says to me that the water contains gators, just not ones that can swim.

So, what are gators doing in the water if they can't swim?  And since all known gators can swim the biologist in me has to ask if this is a new species of gators.  Note also that this took place in Texas, which makes to whole event, not a surprise.  Several of my TX neighbors are capable of actions requiring similar intellect.

Reptile illiteracy is a big problem.  The sign clearly states the alligators are prohibited from swimming in that area, but they cannot read it.

Are we now to punish the alligators for our failure to teach them to read?
