Here's the plan for my next car.

1) CHEAP
2) RWD
3) Stick
4) Sporty
5) 20+ MPG
6) Not a ragtop
6) A/C
7) Not a maintenance pig

Anyone have any bright ideas?

#7 is of primary importance to me. Looks like you have it covered.

Used Mazda 3? They come with Manual's or "Autostick"

Yeah, but it'd be a glorious two years. When I lived in the DC area with my first Land Cruiser - a rusty 1973 FJ40 I bought for $500 in Northern PA, just a few miles from the NY Finger Lakes - the Cruiser folk I got to know would all speak in reverent, hushed tones about this mythical beast we called the "Arizona Truck." The sun down in the Valley around Phoenix will strip the clearcoat off some new cars in just four or five years and roast tires, but rust isn't something I think much about any more.  [beer]

Dave - I'll send you a PM with details later today.
My 98 GMC pickup is starting to suffer from both at this point in it's life.

I either paint it or it'll be done in a couple of years. Now that we're hauling a 28' camper I really don't want  to have to replace this thing. It runs good, has all the power and suspension for camper hauling I need even in the hills and mountains, and I have no payment.

^^ That 83 RX7 is pretty clean, and having owned 3, I can testify they're a lot of fun. Not very fast, but miles of smiles.

I sure do love that no payment smell.  ;D

Haven't had one since 94. The thought makes me sick to my stomach.

I have one...it's all I can manage.

The way they build things today, and with the amount of salt they use here, the Escape probably won't last much past the last payment. There oughta be a law. :P

Popeye the Sailor

I don't think Ive ever had a payment, and I like it like that.

Although now that I can expect things to rust out post move, maybe having a truck with a lifespan longer than rust isn't worth it.

I do love the capability though.

Mebbe I'll just buy used California cars, cheap, no rust, will die in a few years anyway.

Cheap
RWD
Manual
Plastic Body (No body rust anyway)
Fair amount of maintenance but not too bad.
20+ MPG
A/C
Not a ragtop, but some have removable glass sunroofs.
