A properly prepared 510 will get your pulse going.

What happened to the minimal maintenance requirement? [evil]

If it can't even tick the first box, it's a non-starter.

But yeah, the maintenance would be ridonkulous.

It'd never wear out a set of tires.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

True, but they'd get flat spots.

But look at the bright side.

I forgot all about those 510's, I think that may be just the thing.

That's a mighty clean Fiero there, and it's the late model with the much more handsome C-pillars.
I had forgotten about them, hardly ever see them.

Plastic panels are cool.
I've got a Saturn, and it's saved me some dings.
Very reliable car for me, and it fulfills the function of transporting me warm/cool and dry, and carrying groceries and whatnot at 30mpg.
But automatic FWD and tiny motor do not boost my pulse rate at all.

Stu's suggestion of a Miata... I'm sure they're a hoot, but same lack of effect on my pulse rate.

And I'm totally down with that no payment smell.

An RX7 would be interesting, I've never even been in one.

The Camaro is an interesting option, a former workmate had one of that vintage, and he said it was stone reliable, and the little that did go wrong could be fixed with a visit to any chain car parts store.

RX-7/8 fails the maintenance requirement. I'd suggest a BMW. Pick a 3 series that counts as cheap... they are easier to work on than a rotary.

E30 looks like a Toyota with a BMW grille grafted on.  :(

Mmmm, yeah, maybe an 1st gen, E21.

WTF: $1999?

Jeebus, I thought that $1999 for the 318 was low.

I suspect that both the '93 318 and '01 540 have issues passing smog inspection here due to the low prices.
But damn, those are tempting samples, 4.4 liter DOHC V-8 in that 5-series.
Maybe in spring there will be some low hanging fruit within reach, I'm kinda strapped now.

You are quite the enabler!  [laugh]
Genuine thanks, that's awesome!

The depreciation hit on "luxury" brands is pretty fierce, especially with mileage thrown in. At 5 years you are looking at something like 70%, which means you can buy a relatively recent sample of a $100k car for $30k.

I wouldn't recommend a used BMW to everybody, as the dealer prices for repairs are exorbitant. There's a few special tools, and some surprising wear items (like special bushings in the rear suspension that cause the rear toe to go all wonky and eat tires). Forum and aftermarket support is pretty good, too.

Thats why I have a couple of MB vehicles around here. This ML 320 I got was shockingly inexpensive. Pretty easy to work on too, not that it needs much work.

My next car might be a EV.
