Probably a good idea.  I don't know.  I did that sort of thing when I moved out of KY house.  The moving company showed up, moved half of my stuff and then told me they would have to double the price because I didn't tell them I had boxes.  I asked them how they expected to move my furniture if I didn't empty the drawers?  Then I told them it was their job to tell their customer that they charged seperately for boxes.  They only asked me how many square feet was the house, was there an upstairs, how many bedroom suits, etc.  So, I called their boss and he cussed me out over the phone.  I figured out they were trying to scam me because I was the only one there (ommyta was already here in TX-working).  I paid them what I thought half the job was worth and told them to get the make the beast with two backs off my property.  I called this little 80-yr old dude who had come over the day before to get my appliances and asked him if he could help me move the rest of my stuff to the storage unit.  I would have rather paid him the extra $ than some assholes who were trying to take advantage of me.  Anyway, he came over and the two of us moved everything else with his little S10 truck and a small trailer.  On the last trip to the storage unit, I was following him down a busy road and suddenly Jade's container of old Thomas trains jumped off the trailer, hit the road and scattered everywhere.  People were slamming on their brakes and honking.  Me and this 80 yr old guy were running around the street picking up trains with people cursing at us. (I think I was wearing the same bermuda boxers I am getting ready to wear to Walmart).  Anyway, after the job was finally done, I gave that old guy so much free stuff and $ and he was one of the hardest working people I've ever met.  Needless to say, I bought some Vodka and a pack of cigs and went to my mom's.
The next day, I was helping mom get something out of her attic and insulation fell into my eye.  I scratched my eye so badly I had everyone at the Dr's office coming in my exam room to see it.  So, I did what anybody would do...I borrowed Morgan's sleeping mask (turned it kinda sideways), I packed my sh*t in the van, hooked up ommyta's jeep with a tow bar, loaded up the kids and drove straight through to TX (18 hours).  Good times.

Could I option your life for a movie?!? ;D

That's the only (almost) interesting story I have...sorry.
It's not like I grew up in a family of seven kids, wearing pants that were always too short (cause I was the tallest girl in the fam), with a mom who liked to spontaneaously jump out of moving vehicles...(now she just spontaneously disapears during moto rides)...

you have no idea how much psychotic shit she could put into the big screen.  One who flew over the cuckoo's nest has nothing on her life.

I don't really know what that means, but I do think McKraut should put his stuff in boxes.

ohhhh, don't you worry.  i'm all about putting my stuff in boxes.

Your so money!  [thumbsup]
Okay, I got it now.  Actually, if I was so "money", I prob would have hired a better moving company, not stared up at the attic while pulling the stairs down and stopped at a nice hotel on the way to TX.  I was really just making fun of myself!  [thumbsup]

just a quick update on this.  i'm grabbing the penske truck at 9am saturday, and will plan on starting 10am or maybe a little before.  i have a regular hand truck already, and should have an appliance once as well as a furniture roller as well.  we should be set on capacity; B8 was gracious enough to volunteer his truck to help out if we had excess stuff, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

starting address is 1309 main st., dallas 75202.  it's the intersection of main st. and field st., and parking is the NE corner of that intersection (there's a flimsy little arm that you can easily ride past on a bike).  park on the 11th floor (or wherever...the 11th may fill up with bikes since there are reserved spots around it...lower floors like 6-10 are not reserved) in the garage, and give me a call.  my cell is 214-385-6715.  the only door from the garage to the apartments is on the 11th floor (11th floor of parking garage = 9th floor of apartment building).

the move destination (aka "hood-lite") is near the lemon and haskell intersection east of 75.

i'll have some beer and drinks...other than that just come hang out even if you just want to be a "supervisor" and watch people sweat while you drink a beer.  and if people are up for it we can grab some grub afterward.  thanks again to anyone that can make it out  [thumbsup]

I'll be there. I'll bring my pick up and two wheel dolley also in case we need it. Hey, at least it won't be raining (hopefully) and it won't be 105 degrees... how bad can it be? [thumbsup] [bacon]

Where should we park the cages?  In the alley on the east side of the Davis building?

B8 and fastwin...if you would park the pickups in the alley east of the davis building, that would work best.  that's where the service elevator comes out, and that's where i'll have the moving truck parked by about 9:30 hopefully.  hopefully i won't have to fight anyone else for parking space in the alley; i talked to the office to make sure that no one was slated to move and they gave me the green light.

i marked up a pic of where the alley is located...it works best if you enter the alley from main street.  there's not a ton of parking, but we could have a few bikes park back there also if you're not wanting to park in the garage.  if others are coming in a cage...the alley can probably hold 10 vehicles at max...and that would be pretty tight, so any more than b8 or fastwin may just want to park on main street (streets are pretty empty saturday AM), or in the garage.

Looks like I am not gonna make it out for the big moving day!  >:(  Sorry - really tried to work it out, but it just ain't gonna happen!  I have faith you all will survive even without my special moving talents (as before mentioned)!  ;D  Anyhoo - Happy Moving - I'll be thinking about you guys when I am school shopping ( :P), and arguing with Oceane about why she can't buy high heeled shoes to wear to school in the fifth grade. [thumbsup]
