yea, thats true.  I just don't know much about a/f ratios and tuning.  I can install it, and load maps and stuff, but I don't really know about adjusting a/f ratios.

The buttons on the faceplate are divided up into 3 sections for adjusting the map. Low, mid and high. Simply divide your entire rpm range (to red line) by 3 and you will get the ranges for each. On most of the PCIII models the adjustment steps are good for approx 2% fuel change. So each bar (light) you move up or down will add or subtract 2% fuel for the given rpm range you are working on. You need to hold down ALL 3 buttons and turn the ignition on, when you see the lights come on and stay on, release the buttons. Then momentarily press the one you want to work on, this will select that range and you can then add/subtract fuel by raising or lowering the bar (light) for each range (pressing and releasing raises, and holding lowers). Once done it is MANDATORY that you wait long enough for the unit to reset (the lights will drop to the bottom) and test by opening/closing the throttle. The lights shou;d rise and fall as the throttle is opened/closed. Once you have verified this it is safe to turn the key off.

NOTE: on some bikes the power is lost to the PCIII after a few seconds after turning the key on. This is the case on my RS (and my previous Z1000). In this case you will need to start the bike while holding down all 3 buttons and make adjustments with the bike running. Or, use the 9v adapter to power the unit without starting the bike and make the adjustments that way.

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!

Well, by default the bikes are very lean and will get leaner if you open up the airbox etc. I would start by adding a small amount of fuel, to the area(s) that your bike doesn't run well in. As with anything, do it in steps and ride it to see how it affects the bike. But I can tell you from experience, you are running a 15:1 ratio or close to it. My RS was, before I put the Termi system and DP ecu on it. the dyno guy pretty much insisted on dialing in a 13:1 ratio. A little rich for my tastes on the low end. I made a one bar change and things are perfect.

So start by keeping things even across the board and adding one bar (up) for each range and test. Then go from there....

thanks for the advise!!  I guess that will be what i'll go with untill I can get the exhaust/ tuning done!

I had talked with power commander on the phone and they said they didn't have a map for me, however they emailled me and told me to use the one for a stock bike with fbf slip ons and a stock air box.  So I did.  I installed it this weekend and man did it make a big difference!!  THe low end power is better.  Throttle response is smoother!! It didn't fit where the instructions said to put it.  THey wanted it under the tank on top of the battery, but it wouldn't fit there at all, so i lengthened the ground wire and now its hiding under the seat!

thanks for all the help!!
