I was quoted in January 8999 +700 frieght pdi blah blah blah. By the time the bike came in it went up another 400 bucks. There was tax on top of that too. With Termis and all totalled including tax it came out to about 12000 bucks Canadian.

you guys should wait.....
those dealers are trying to rip people off (pretty lame IMO)
problem is, every time someone pays their extortion, they will have validation to do it to the next person
unless there is something really special about the 696 that i cant see, they are just trying to capitalize on the new look  :P monster

you can get a lot of used bike for that kind of money.

I was actually quite disgusted by DNA's dealers this last go around. I went to my credit union and got pre-approved, they said how much do you want? I said, I don't know..17k? Figured that would be enough for a hypermotard with pipes or an 848. It was but I still decided to shop around a bit. The variance in pricing, freight charges, setup charges, this color cost more then that color charges, etc. were out of line.

I could have bought either bike but didn't "have to have" either one (I'd really like a new 1098 Monster or such) so I decided to look at other brands for the first time in 10 years. Every Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki sells for less then MSRP out the door. It doesn't have the soul/personality that my Ducs did, but while I wait for "the" Monster to come out, the '08 R6 will do fine at 9400 OTD. 360ish pounds, slipper clutch, ti exhaust, 170 MPH, blah, blah, blah for half the cost of a Hyper with pipes.

I got quoted about $10,4 for a completely standard 696.

Do you guys think I should try to get some carbon out of the deal?  I was thinking I could tell them to put on the CF Termignonis and the CF heat guard for the exhaust pipe and they have a deal.  Does this seem reasonable?  Maybe I'll say for $11k?
Anyone have any opinions on this?

Read my post. That was essentially what my deal was going to be.  It is amazing here in Oregon, mainly at one dealer.  Every single bike in the dealer is MSRP plus $1000 for freight and set up.  No way around it.  695, S2R, Hyper, etc....all MSRP plus $1000.

Which is why after only owning my S2R for 22 days before I crashed it, I am debating going back to the Japanese side of the sport.  Also, trailering my bike 110 miles each way over and over is no fun either.

Man... maybe I should try to get them to put ALL the carbon on there...

This really won't end up being all that cheap considering it's their entry-level.  :-\

At least it's real nice...  ;)

With these prices, it is making it easier for me to wait a year or so before buying.  Still want one though!  [moto]

Wow...these numbers are scary.  I was very lucky....I got my 696 under MSRP with no setup fees in NY state.  No complaints here....

Really?  Where in New York?  I'm in south-western Connecticut so if it's not too far I'll check it out!

With extra fees tacked on placing OTD that far from MSRP, I'll just view them from afar.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and want to thank everyone here for all the great information that I am trying to consume.

I'm a new rider and purchased a used Yamaha YZF600 last October to get my feet wet; I recently sold the bike and I have my eye on the new Monster 696. The dealer in Nassau County Long Island (NY) wants ~$9800 for the Dark 696 (includes Registration + Tax).

Any suggestions on a dealer in NY and a good out the door price?

That seems like a good deal as far as everything else I've been hearing.
You should tell them to throw the Termi's on there and make it $10,000 even and they have a deal.
