Another question, what exactly is on a "chicago style" hotdog?

a Vienna Beef dog with tomatoes, neon green relish, sport peppers, onions and a pickle spear on a poppy seed bun.  They are awesome!

Every time I am in Chicago I make sure to eat at least one Italian beef sandwich.

To answer a few of Cyrus' questions: We are flying (southwest) tomorrow night, returning monday afternoon.  I'll have to ask where exactly the place is that we are staying.  As far as cost goes...let's just say I can't get too carried away!

Knowing where you are staying is key to helping you out.

The transit system (known as the "L") is great to get around and very easy to use.

I will give you the best place to eat in Chicago and lots of historical significance, if you are into old mob/gangster stories.

The location is Lincoln Park and is Chicago Pizza and Ovengrinders

www.chicagopizzaandovengrinder.com

You get this pizza pot pie that is out of this make the beast with two backsing world. For appetizer, get the flat bread and the salad. Prices are reasonable. CARRY CASH, they DO NOT accept credit card/debit card.

It is right across the street from the St Valentines Day Massacre.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Valentines_Day_Massacre

The building where the restaurant is was supposedly used as a lookout. It's pretty cool history.

Don't forget to check out the Lincoln Park Zoo - It is free.

My favorite bar is called Ginger's Ale House. Located sort of in Wrigleyville area. It is an Irish Pub, rumored by some to funnel money to the IRA, but we won't go there. Everyone that works there is from Ireland, over here for a summer job, work study, whatever you want to call it.

I've never eaten there, but here the food is good.

Obviously go to Millenium park. Read about it before you go as it is a classic mayor Dally build.

If you are a Obama fan, go to Grant Park where he gave his winning speech.

So So much to do there.

One more cool thing.....

Go to Rush St in the evening.

If the weather has no snow, you will see all sorts of high end cars, etc. That is where all the wealthy hang out. Be careful, as it gets a little shadey a few blocks inland.

If you want to drop some coin on some drinks.

There is a bar at the top of the Hancock Building (no, not in Oprah's apartment). I can't think of what it is called.

I believe there is a two drink minimum and drinks will run you about 15$ a piece.

I personally think it is worth it if the weather is nice as the view is beautiful.

Well, so far I love this city.  Went to "Clark's" last night and tried out the hotdogs and the italian beef.  Both were excellent ;D.  Going to grab some breakfast at some place called Tweet (not sure on the spelling) and then take the train downtown to see the Shedd aquarium.  I'm going to try to see pretty much every place you guys have mentioned here so far.

As far as the ribs go that a few people have mentioned, nobody here seems to know of a great rib place.  Could you be a little more specific?

I really don't think Chicago is known for Ribs, dude.

It is known for pizza.

Do you like German Food? Really make the beast with two backsing good German food? And great beer?

I forgot No Reservations did a show in Chicago

The Foie Dog at Hot Doug's sounds great, and if I remember correctly they also have duck fat fries......Yummm...

Hot Doug's is outstanding.  It is truly an encased meat emporium.

Kuma's Korner - easily the best burgers anywhere.

Smoque - go for the ribs, stay for the brisket.

Sultan's Market - the best falafals and shawarmas I've ever had.

The problem for tourists is these places are not in the normal areas they're likely to go, except for Sultan's.  It's very near the Damen Blue Line stop at North and Hoyne.

If you are in Lincoln Park late night......you have to go to Wiener Circle.

That's all I will say about that as I will get banned if I get into how this place is.

It isn't a strip club. It is just something a bit different..........

weiner circle rocks!  it's a hot dog stand that get very vocal to the 2 am drunk crowd and it is something to experience, at least once!  I go there during the day and peps are cool and friendly.  (I feel too old to hang with LP trix and trixies.)

Smoques is a really good rib joint...

Twin Anchors is an old famous (rib) restaurant...(be warned the ribs are boiled tender and Return to Me was filmed there (I was big X-files fan).

Try replacing a main entry door to Union Station between midnight and 5:00 AM.

That's entertainment.  ;)

Eight years I lived in Chicago.
Every Wednesday night  the group of folks I used to ride with in Chicago would go to an eatery.
This was one of the choices. (The sides that I had were also excellent)
People rave about the ribs.
It's a Chicago must-do if you want ribs.

We went to Kuma's Korner for lunch today. It opens at 11:30...we got there at 11 to stand in a line stretching a block down the sidewalk!  Hands down the best burger I have ever had.  The bartender had a Half Fast Chicago shirt on.  I talked bikes with him for a while and got a beer on the house  [thumbsup]. Tonight we have reservations at the Signature Room.  I'm not too fond of heights....so we'll see how this goes  [roll]

Really glad you made it to Kuma's. I've been going there since before they had a liquor license. Haven't been to Signature Room in years but enjoyed it last time I was there.
