I also heard on the news that they will be operated by RTA employees to keep more police doing their "duties".

Interesting point to note about the one months grace to people who get caught.

this is the biggest lie I've heard from the Labour Govt, although Minister for Frocks n Mardi Gras has resigned anyways, imagine what the Labour Govt would do without revenue from speed & red light camera's?? they'd just have to find another way to rape motorists ....

Quote“I would be thrilled if these cameras didn’t collect one cent â€" it’d mean motorists are getting the message that speeding is not OK,” Mr Campbell said.

One , in focus shot of my butt is going to pay for their shiny new camera !

The revenue is a point but dont think that the "Conserves" wouldnt have done exactly the same thing, and would roll back these "Safety Initiatives"!
Face it , itas a cash cow that no government anywhere hasnt milked! [evil]

What shits me is the continued lack of realsim in the initiatives. There appears to be no taking into account that the driving public rises by X numbers every year! So logically more on road, road toll final number likely to increase (Yumm! More money from camera revenue, hehe! [roll] Do I sound cynical?)

There is no strategy to improve road user attitude and behaviour other than throw more money at things that will raise them MORE money and in the final analysis do Phark all to reducing the road toll!  >:(

Dont fine people, if they have done something bad enough like turn in fron of traffic (Bike??) and hurt people, screw 'em in court and dont be so freaking soft with the penalty! Chuck them in the can. If people knew there were extreme penalties for a lot of these idiot acts they might think differently. ???

It works in other countries that have extensive training and testing for obtaining licences and quality road usage is expected! Manners, skill and brain usage are usually the norm, and the penalties are harsh if you dont toe the line. And why not?  [thumbsup]

Pant, puff, I shouldnt get so excited so early in the morning before my third coffee [coffee]

Two Hunter traffic patrol officers from Newcastle LAC were involved in an unusual incident while checking for speeding motorists on the F3 Freeway.  One of the officers used a hand-held radar device to check the speed of a vehicle approaching over the crest of a hill, and was surprised when the speed was recorded at over 800Kph.  Their radar suddenly stopped working and the officers were not able to reset it.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact latched on to a Williamtown FA-18 fighter jet which was engaged in a low-flying exercise over Wyong, approaching from the ocean.

Back at police headquarters the Local Area Commander fired off a stiff complaint to the RAAF Liaison officer at Williamtown.

Back came the reply in true laconic RAAF style:

'Thank you for your message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident.  You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked onto, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it.  Furthermore, an air-to-ground missile aboard the fully-armed aircraft had also automatically locked onto your equipment.

Fortunately the pilot flying the Hornet recognised the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile systems alert status, and was able to override the automated defence system before the missile was launched and your hostile radar installation was destroyed.

Thank you for your enquiry.

That press release is so full of shit and contradictions I feel inclined to pick it apart piece by piece. The only problem is it made me angry reading it ... trying to apply logic to some of those statements and 'safety initiatives' may just tip me over the edge. >:( >:( >:(

love it Dragon!

Shame the hostile radar was not destroyed minus the operator of course.
Better still can we send a directive to the RAAF to lock onto and eliminate any mobile radar vehicles parked
on the side of the road keeping motorists safe!

Oh and course they will not spend any of the coming $$$ on a proper secondary track for Sydney.
Seeming as it's virtually impossible for operators and race organizers to book time at Eastern Creek.
We'll just keep booking people for driving/riding 3-10 klm/h over the limit but give them no option of getting off the road
and having a blast on the track.
But that's a whole other story.

Maybe we could start a rumour that terrorists are planning on using laser and radar technology to cause mayhem and potentially set off bombs etc!  ;)

Aaaaand use the operation of speed detecting radars and lasers as cover for their insidious activities!!  :o

Wouldnt that just chuck a spanner in the money grabbing activities of these dropkicks?? I just wonder if they would curtail their activities if something like this was possible??  [leo]

I mean they dont like those little laser pointers cos they can cause problems with their heli...COP....ters!  [evil]

I dont reckon I'd like to be anywhere near a modern speed detection device where armed military aircraft are likely to be also??

Just for interest sake, this is how i got my points . All in my car . Coming back from Melbourne . Cop car , coming the other way with camera mounted on the side . 88 in 80 zone . 4 points .Contested that one but aparently the camera does'nt lie ! One month later sydney school zone camera detected at 9 .16 No flashing lights to warn and no road markings at that time, now there's both. 4 points .Last , no seat belt , pulling out of my place  [bang] 3 points So how do i feel riding a bike that gets from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds ? very nervous! [roll] All in the space of 7 weeks It just seemed so easy to do !

I'm confused.  How is 8km over = to 4 points?  In Vic (as far as I'm aware) <9km over = 1 point, 10 - 24 over = 3 points.  25 over - start walking.

Here in Vic you have to be suspicious of any vehicle on the side of the road.  Last ticket I got, I didn't even see where he was hiding.  Just crusing along with the road all to myself then next time I looked behind me there was flashing lights.  [bang] [bang]

I also lost all my points (didn't get a letter tho so kept riding) You learn to spend a lot of time looking at your speedo instead of looking at the road/traffic.  But I bet no-one will listen if you use the "to busy looking at the speedo" reason in the case of an accident.

gino

Exceed speed limit by not more than 15 km/h $328 - 4 points, thats how it reads .Does that mean 3 years after that date ?

Ouch  :'(

Reading the VicRoads site about demerits says that you never get back to zero.  With each subsequent misdemeanour they look at it to see if you have amassed 12 demerits in a 3 year period.  So technically you just keep clocking up points indefinitely.  It's just the time period that you do it in that matters.

eg I lost 3 points in 2006, 3 in 2007 and 6 in 2008 so I'm figuring that the ones in 2006 and 2007 don't count against me anymore. So by my reckoning, next year I can let my hair down - yee haa.  [thumbsup]  [moto]
