Hi there all,

Well I havent been on the site for ages and it is good to see it is still going strong.  I was wandering around a local bike shop in Adelaide the other week and had a look at a MV Agusta 1078 - 312 that they are selling at a reasonable price.  On research the price isnt as good as first thought but it aint bad.  It got me thinking about adding a sports bike to my garage to keep my S4R company.  So my question is has anyone on the site ridden a MV 1078 and if so what do they think about it.  I have watched all the videos on the net and read heaps of stuff about them.  They seem to be great but maybe run a tad hot.....

I would also like views on the MV versus the Ducati 1098/1198 ...

Cheers

OK, so I can't tell the difference bewteen an MV Agusta and a desmodromic valve system, but perhaps this thread may point you in the right direction:

I have been looking into this also, I have never ridden a 1098 or 1198 but I have ridden the MV.
Awesome, if your used to the low down grunt of the v twin it takes some getting used to but with 190hp there scary fast! The front end, turn in, feedback is incredible. They like to be ridden hard! I revv the tits of my little 750 and it loves it  :-*
As far as running hot goes, there's plenty of advice around for upgrading water pumps etc, but lets be honest how much sitting in traffic will you be doing? (there not very comfortable imo)
Reservations: Still no confirmed importer /distributor for the MV's (last I checked), I have heard that the reputable MV sellers will back the warranty etc but parts could be hard to get. Parts are readily available on the interwebby thingy just like bits for the Ducati's, infact most suppliers stock parts for both marques.
You will pick up a brand new 1078 312 r 1+1 for about $20 - 22k or a 1078 rr for 25-29 which I think is awesome value. The second hand market is pretty good too, I recall seeing a 1+1 on bikesales recently for about 16k  :o.
They are well priced because the 2010 is well and truly overdue here and I would expect that if/when the importer is sorted we could see them soon after.
Personally I would get a second hand bike, both marques are generally owned by enthusiasts or show off's so they usually well looked after.
If I could get the cash together I would buy a 1078 f4 for the track and be parking my little 750 f4s because I believe they will only increase in value (being the first model and somewhat a revolution in design)

The 1098 is a sensational bike, 185 hp or there abouts depending on model and as for  torque there is plenty, around 40% more than a R1 has and at 3,000 rpm less. Best of both worlds IMO.
Only downside is $$$$$   [roll];D

Thanks everyone for the replies.

So if you had the option of a Ducati 1098 or a MV Agusta 1078 - 312 which one would you buy??

me personally have always thought the MV looked nice , but i didnt fall in love with the look

sounds , yeh just like the other 4 jap litre bikes

ducati for me has had the look and always had the sound mmm

as mentioned above MV support is lacking, but lets face it arent they all ;)
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.
