As the title now says it would be great if we can all shell out something folding to donate to Rob and family that would be amazing.

braando

Matty, your new German pencil spelt Cabron wrong...... [roll]  (sorry, but i was spelling monitor at school)   ;D
Re donations MV,   just one query........do the donations go to Rob & family or the cancer fund...?    Btw,...... I'm 100% for it either way and will happily donate, but was just wondering, thats all....!

mattyvas

Good question Brian, I'll investigate for all of us. And I'll go fix the bobo.  :-[

Looking at the site and reading the details I'd say that the donations go to the Cancer Council and not to the family.
I'll try to get in touch with Rob direct and confirm it.

monstermick58

Good question Brian, the way I understand it is that the family has been through hell and back with the help and support from the cancer council, so this is their way of putting something back into an organisation that has supported them.

By the way Rob has lost his bloody password and cant log on to the DMF so he cannot tell you exactly where he's at at the moment.

If you click on the link in my 'other' post it will show how you can make a donation into Rob's team, even if its only $5 and thats tax deductable, end thread jack.

Oh, lightly pencil me in Matty

Hey Mmick,......hope you can make it on the 6th.........and thanks for the info......maybe the moths will be flying out of a couple of salt encrusted pockets over you know where....... [roll]

And this is the link Mmick mentioned above       http://relay.cancercouncil.com.au/2011/illawarra_2011/Kyle-McKellars-Fan-Club

Controversial Reverse Putty Option:

http://bit.ly/reverseputty

Putty can be shitty and cold in the mornings. The 10 Mile twisty bit is still damp if you hit it at 10:00am. To avoid this we could potentially do Putty backwards. By the time you hit the 10 mile and the good twisty bits it will be warm and dry This lets Matty have his 'take it from behind option" as well - which I applaude

Start on the Old Road early, hit it hard with minimal stops to Wollombi for a quick coffee, on across the 200ms of dirt road* back onto freshly sealed tar roads to Broke for a quick refuel. Then, across Milbrodale Road, down the awesome 10 Mile twisty section of Putty Road, stop at HalfWay House for something for lunch, then onto Colo Heights for Fuel for the Testrastrettas and on down to Windsor then make our separate ways. If we don't dawdle we can be back at Windsor by about 2:30PM, so it doesn't have to be a loooooooooooooong day. We just need to ride smart big group styles and we *need* to depart Bow wow wow @ 8:30 on the dot.

Depart 8:30am          Berowra -> Broke:       130Kms (Fuel)                      ~2 hours riding, stop at Wollombi for a quick coffee (~1hour for a coffee break, regrouping and refueling)
Depart 11:30am        Broke -> Colo Heights: 125Kms (Fuel)                      ~2 hours riding, stop at halfway for something for lunch  (~ 1hour for lunch, regrouping)
Depart 2:30pm          Colo Heights -> Windsor 35Kms                               ~30 min to Windsor, then choose your own adventure home (M4/M2/Galston Gorge/whatevs)

It can be done heaps quicker than the predicted stops. I am building in loads of time for straggling and so BrianW can polish his bike and stuff.

* It's really not that bad as far as dirt roads go. I will make the beast with two backsing push your bike if along if you don't want to ride it - but don't say you were not warned.

But Craig, your missing our main objective here........the   "C" factor.......Oh yes indeedy,........C..C..CCCCCCClaudio.......... ;D   it just won't be the same without our educational entertainment.....!  whatmore, i have contacted him on Facebook and he is expecting us....... [roll]

Controversial Reverse Putty Option:

I am in no position to throw my weight around but I think it is a great idea ... just as Matty started this thread I was going to suggest a shorter, end of winter ride - due to the shorter days, colder starts and green roads.

By taking the Calga exit from the Old Road you are avoiding the most fun (but early morning treachery) at the end. Also it gives you a bit more flexibility on the north end of the Putty ... especially for the more 'spirited' riders. You could make a 'sighting' run down through the fun bit ... and depending on time and fuel issues re-trace your tyre tracks. Because lets face it most of the south part of the Putty is ... ummm ... long.

Oh and I will leave the dirt argument alone. The amount bridge works they have been doing in the area (removing the old timber bridges) leaves me hopeful that someone will finally take responsibility for that part of the road ... and fix it.

But like I said I am not really in a position to comment.
Believe post content at your own risk.

braando

Hey Mark..........whether you are on the ride or not, your comments are always appreciated, read, plus taken into account mate........!  Tis a dam pity though that you both can't make it.
Am pretty sure though that Rob S has accepted your role bringing up the rear. Well, if he hasn't, then he will be aware of it by now cos i am MV's sargeant of arms for the day  ...! self appointed of course       Actually, I think it was Des who told me that Rob likes it up the......let me please re-phrase this and say he likes the position there, at the "back öf the pack".... [thumbsup].....secrets safe with me guys

Quotejust as Matty started this thread I was going to suggest a shorter, end of winter ride - due to the shorter days, colder starts and green roads.

Here's a REALLY, REALLY crazy idea........

Why not have more than just one ride over the next few weeks..................?

Man, I shot out to Wollombi last Sat morning & yes, it was bloody cold, but what a day!!! I was there by 8.30am, so no issues with an early start.

If you can pick a week without rain (like the last couple) the days are brilliant for a ride.
So its a little cooler - Rug up. So the shaded bendy bits are perhaps not as great as mid summer - take it a little easier.

Not sure about everyone else, but one of the great things I love about the bike is just being out and enjoying the ride & great company. I'll go as hard as anyone else, when the conditions permit, but the 'having fun' factor is primary in winter for me.

just my 2 cent's.......

Fine idea by me Craigo.
I much prefer the Putty heading into Windsor. Let's see what the group size is on the day.
If we approach 20 people like we have of late then we all know there will be a reasonable amount of time getting people back together at stops.

That said if we spend less time chin wagging at smaller stops we can have more time at lunch at the new halfway house on the putty road.

And Dan T, there are always people out riding most weekends. Not always does it get advertised here due to various reasons.
Leaving at your usual times that we have seen isn't possible for a ride such as this as people come from many parts of the city and far beyond for others so a 7-7:30 depart can mean a 5:30 start for some which just isn't fair, cause who wants to be up at that time in winter!

So an 8:30 depart is fine from Berowra to give us more time up our sleeve for the day.

Hi Matt, I understand completely!! Let's be honest, not everyone is as looney as me with the early morning starts. Even I was having a go at myself for being stupid when I rode into the valley on the approach to Wollombi last week & the whole place was completely white! I've never seen frost so think, you'd have thought it had snowed!

I guess rather than suggesting an earlier kick off, I was trying to say that even in the earlier hours, the roads are still fine through the twisties, as long as you ride to the conditions.

I'm happy to tag along with whatever happens, but did plan on the original direction. I have to end up in the Central Coast at the end of the day, so if a reverse run is in order, I may have to bail after Wollombi.
