Congrats everyone!!

Four months into it and I can't imagine anything being better. The little chump holds little "oooh" and "ahhh" conversations with me and laughs his ass off when I oink like a pig. Also, I feel very blessed that he absolutely LOVES getting his diaper changed. He rolled over for the first time the other day and watches the races with me on weekends.

Although I'm lacking sleep and money and the bike really needs a new set of tires, I wouldn't trade the little man for anything in the world.

Yes, they go through a lot...one of the reasons we like cloth diapers.  About to run out?  Just do a load of laundry.

Let me know if you are ever interested in learning more about carriers that will last far longer than a Baby Bjorn and be far more comfortable, both for baby and for mom/dad.  :)

Since this is the father thread, here's a picture of MrI with M at 11 months.

:-\  cloth diapers.  More power to ya!  My sister-in-law tried that.  I think I'll put up with the costs of huggies.   [cheeky]

Is that the lil' man carrier you're talking about?

Cute pic btw!

Dave even looks partially normal.

Yes, that;s my munchkin carrier-we have a bunch of different ones.

I can take you for a ride in it, IZ  :P

FIFY ;)

Love cloth diapers.  We've occasionally had to use disposables (e.g. for travel) and we thought they were harder to use than the cloth!  We also do EC (elimination communication) which helps cut down on the number of diapers.

Yes, that's one of them.  That type is a Mei Tai, fashioned after a traditional Chinese carrier.  There are also ring slings, wraps, and soft structured buckle carriers, best known of which is the Ergo.  They hold the baby in a much more natural position (for example, supported by the butt rather than the crotch) and distribute the weight far better on the parent.  There's a huge variety out there each with different advantages.

We have 3 other carriers besides the Bijorn. They're all wrap types. I'm sure one is the one you mentioned. What's this elimination communication?  Something I can do with an 8 week old?!

Maybe you have a Moby as one of them?  That's a stretchy wrap which is a really nice option for a newborn but not supportive past about 15 pounds, also cannot be used on the back.  It can be hot in the summer though.  Anyway if you have any questions about how to use what you have let me know. :)

Yup, we started at 6 weeks, some start at birth.

It is what is traditionally done in many other cultures, which all toilet train much earlier than the US.  It's communicating with your baby about their elimination needs and responding to their communications by offering potty opportunities as appropriate.  It is not "training", there is nothing coercive about it.  Just like you would respond to the baby's cries of hunger by feeding him, you respond to his cues about needing to pee or poop.

Here's the website I first learned about EC from, although there are many others:
http://tribalbaby.org/ECindex.html
(it's an Australian site so "nappies" = "diapers")

Don't worry that'll change!  [laugh] As soon as he can walk (maybe crawl) he'll hate having his diaper changed for a little while...slows him down ya know!

Thanks yall. I get to go to my first Dr. appointment next week. Not sure what I think about it yet. If it wasn't Monday morning I'd have few  [drink] first.

Gratz Duck...  just wait one of these days you'll go to the doctor and get an ultrasound full of baby-junk.
