Xoom or Ipad2?

Looking at both.  32GB models.  I don't really care about the 3G, will be shopping wi-fi only.  If I need 3G, I can tether it using my jailbroken ip4.

Xoom on Amazon now for $400
Ipad2 is ~$575

Please discuss.  Only Apple product we have in the house is my ip4.  Wifey phone is android.  I'm planning on buying 2 tablets.

Seeing how some of the other manufactures are dropping their tablets (probably due to not being able to keep up with the iPad), you'd probably be better off with the iPad down the road from a support/life span point of view.  YMMV

As for the apps, can't beat the apple app store.

iOS is just apple, and that's it.  It's a lot easier to fix issues with that in mind.  Android differs so much in hardware, that os fixes are a pain in the ass in that respect.

Yeah the iPad does not support flash, but have you noticed how many websites are going non-flash now-a-days because of the success of apple portable products?  

Those are just my opinions.  

FWIW: I play with the apples, and work on a PC/BB.  Can't beat a PC/BB when it comes to actually doing work though.

All I ask from my apple products is for them to so what they're suppose to do, and I don't ask for anything more.  Now if the iPad doesn't already do what you want, leading to you having to jailbreak it....you might just want to stick with the android.

I've been using Apple products since college in the early 90s and am biased but for a reason. People say I'm just buying the logo but I disagree, everything seems to run a bit better and Apple's always fixed my stuff under warranty. Construction is spot on, not gaps or glaring errors in build. The app store works because everything is quality controlled by Apple so most products work seamlessly.

I would compare it to buying a Ducati over another brand bike but on this forum that would be a moot point.

No question about it.  Apple's iPad.

The whole eco-system of apple products (software and hardware) and the seamless integration to each other is worth it for me.  

hope to purchase iPad one day.

The Xoom is pretty bad ass, I haven't played with the iPad

I've used the Xoom for a bit but own an Ipad 2.  As mentioned, support is key when I made my decision and uniformity of operating system.  I don't give two bits about the Itunes store since my is jailbroken and I buy what I please, knowing I could crash my pad of course.  [evil]
The only thing that concerned me was the flash embedded websites but frankly unless I'm looking at porn I don't miss it.   ;)
Trust me when I say that I'm a magnet for shit going wrong with my computing devices and the two Ipads I've had gave me no trouble at all whatsoever.  Something to be said about that IMO.
Can we thin the gene pool?

I've got a Xoom and really like it, but I mostly use it for the Kindle app and some basic email.  I went with the Android platform because I live in Google Apps and already have an Android phone.  The gf has an iPad and it seems to be a better experience for basic use.  FYI - we're both on Mac laptops. 

The other device to look at is the Samsung Galaxy Tab.  A colleague of mine raves about it.  I'd suggest figuring out what you plan on doing with a tablet and pick the best device for your needs.

I've got a xoom and bought it because it is an entire laptop replacement. It downloads torrents, fantastic battery life and all the other crap I need it to do to run my business on the go. As far as buying a tablet, I'd wait as the next gen of android tablets is a couple months out.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I have pre-ordered a Asus Prime (transformer 2?) tablet which is supposed to be out in 2 weeks.  I like the docking station/keyboard, and the fact I can do business related things easier with it (at least based on my research).

I had a first gen iPad and used it for my grad school work until I found out the college started using Flash in some areas. So I traded up for a MacBook Air, but will be buying another iPad for entertainment and mobile use. I looked at the other tablets recently, and everything else is still playing catchup with the iPad. Maybe I am biased because I started programming on an Apple, but have also programmed many years on Wintel PC's. So technical issues are not a real problem... that being said, I like how things just work on the iPad and you don't have to fiddle around with system settings and patches and upgrades and hacks just to keep the unit limping along.

Agreed.  Flash seems to be only used for annoying ads anymore.  I'm happy to see it go.
