well in HD case... FOREVER... now who wants Ducati to follow THAT lead. (all you haters raise your hands please)

SO sick of this. the bike is a change, change is just that. like it or not it happens. just like everyone that CHANGED things on your 1st and 2nd gen monsters.

oh BTW how many of you that hate the new monster didn't change a thing on your bike? probably not many.

and the 1100 probably makes at least 95 hp since it might have the new head design like the 696 which got a bump in hp despite having no increase in displacement over the 695.

geez people get a life. ducati is changing things. now either buy one or don't but do you seriously think ducati cares about your whining?
i don't think they want to follow HD lead despite so many of you wanting that crap road to follow.

yes, actually. i think they watch these types of free market research very carefully.

Just as a point of Interest, My Dealer received an Email from the Managing Director of Ducati Australia and they were advised that Ducati has officially stated there will be no new 4 valve Monster for the 09 model year, the S4R and the S4Rs are still ongoing.

The earliest replacement for the S4R and S4Rs is the 2010 model year.

i must have misunderstood? i thought they were discontinuing the s4r line.
are you asserting that this is not the case, or that while the current line is discontinued, there is not yet a replacement for it?
Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...

As much as i don't think i'll be outgrowing my 696 any time soon, when i am in a position to pass it on to my brother and get a bigger bike, this is frickin' sweet.

Imagine that sucker with boomtubes!!!!

if the new headlight is brighter than the old one i'm all for it, it goes with the bike and also the older style headlight is abbolute crap honestly.  if you think that is good then eithe ryou have a modified one or you like riding in low light conditions.

i still would like to know wwhere the oil cooler goes on this bike, i dont' see it.

its obvious this is the direction they are going, if you dont' like it wait for them to change in a few years, ie. the 999 body style, or switch brands.  it seems like all the ducati monsters will take on this appearance in time. the s4r are the next thing i predict.

its also sad to see that the exhaust shape is the way they are going but hey guess that is great apportuinity for someone to make a nicer shaped exhaust aftermarket and grab that segment.

i personally liek the new subframe and trellis design, not exactly lik ethe older style but hey its an evolution like the d16 style frame that is covered by the faring.

I didn't like a lot of things about my RS either, but it was the closest bike to what I wanted/pictured so I got it and changed what bugged me.

The 1100 just has more to change (for me), that's all.

Therein lies the rub. From the Ducati aftermarket point of view it is a good thing and a bad thing. Some folks are thrilled to have such an open canvas to work with as long as their pockets are deep enough. Some folks, especially the newer folks, seem to like the stock version just fine. That's OK, to each their own.

I just think that it's too bad that some folks have to make some expensive mods just to get the bike to run properly or handle properly. The old basic Monster could be left alone in it's stock form and almost no one had any serious problem with it. The old bike also had a wide open canvas.  Harleys are like that too. This new bike seems to polarize too many folks.

No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

You think maybe were a bit sick of your extremely harsh defense of the design as well? This is a thread about opinions. Just say you love it and leave at that. But we get to say we don't like it too. All that matters in the end is is that you like your bike.

And yes, Ducati does care about our whining. The 999 didn't last long. Lots of our mods have made into standard issue sport classics and S*R bikes.

Regarding the modifying of the bike. That theory doesn't hold water either. Stripping the DOT required she-at off a beautiful design is not the same as having to try to modify a bike to make it palatable. I mean the only 696ish bike that most have liked is the one shown at indy. Unfortunately it probably cost 3 X the cost of the bike to make it look good.

I just bought a hypermotard. I was not looking forward to the release as I was a bit worried I would have felt like I should have waited for the new Monster. That's not the case. The hyperfighter or whatever might make me feel that way but so far, so good.

ahhh i digress, a bit bad tempered lately.

seriously my opinion is that we all enjoy our bikes for what they are - Ducati

no design will ever satisfy every pallet. but one of the reasons motorcycles are so great is that they are a work of art, a canvas, for each of us to build our own mona lisa

Celli's bike is a great example. that is NO WHERE near the original design of the bike, but it is a masterpiece of his.

each of you given enough money could make a 696 or 1100 into a masterpiece you would be happy with. or maybe you will wait for the hyperfighter, or a HM.

anyway you choose, if you choose to buy a new Ducati, the new styles will come.

i expect to see soon, tubular trellis subframes that will satisfy some of the purists. if i were an aftermarket producer, that would be high on my list. (dibs on the copyright)

also, we have already seen low rerouted exhausts to satisfy those detracters.

WE ALL have opinions, and at least we all agree on one thing DUCATI.

please accept my apology for my 'tude and enjoy your rides, fellow Ducatisti  [moto]

Herm, I can only go off what my dealer here in Australia has been told, I saw the Email yesterday, there may be a new line/model EG: Hyperfighter, but the 4 valve monsters are ongoing for the time being.

I would have thought this new model (Hyperfighter) will come in at a price premium above the S4R/S4Rs models, allowing it will use the 1098 motor so not interfering with the Monster line (If this Hyper fighter model even exists)
Which will use older testretta motor

It would not make sense for the local distributor to make a claim like that to his dealers and customers and then a few weeks or month's later find out it was a lie, His dealers would lynch him and then sue him back to the stoneage and the customers would beat the shit out of what was left.

I wonder about the existence of the Hyperfighter, When before the August break on the Desmo blog on Ducati's website, they were asking for customer feedback on putting the 1098 motor in a Monster style of setup.
Maybe they said it to throw off the BikeMags? or to shine the light on the upcoming 1100 monster?
Who knows, but it should be an interesting Bike show in November!  ;D

Well, I don't think Ducati cares so much about our whining as it does about our money. The 999 was canned because it didn't sell worth a crap, not because everyone whined about it. From what I've read, the 696 has been flying off the floor.

True in a sense. The whining was the precrusor to the "not buying". It's not a good comparison though. The 696 is "flying off the floor" because it's the cheapest Duc you can buy.

Isn't it going for around 10k? Cheapest, maybe, but still not cheap.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Time will tell I suppose.

Look under the frame and above the horizontal cylinder. There is a black plastic piece. It has a mesh front, and black plastic sides. The oiler cooler is in there. A pretty slick way to hide it IMO...as the current oil coolers are ugly.

The 696 has the same oil cooler cover...but it's empty. I specifically checked at the local 696 intro. party. If I had a 696 it'd be one of the 1st things I removed...right after the reflectors and emissions shit.
