I currently ride an 06 ktm 625 SMC, I want a DUC! I test rode an 06 S2R 1000, love how it handled but was alittle disappointed. I think I expected more arm pulling power? Would a pipe and ecu add alot?  I also see a great number of 4R's for sale lately. I'm thinking about one of them? Haven't ridden one yet.   What to do?  Help!

s4r or s4rs if you want arm yanking torque. I thought my Tricolore was going to rip itself out of my hands the first few times I whacked it open. Power wheelies are absurdly easy as well.

The platforms are basically the same...

You like whacking the throttle open and getting a rush?...

get a 4V.

If you aren't looking for eye blurring straight line performance a 2V Duc will give you miles of pleasure.

+1 and yes the exhaust/ecu makes a ton of difference... more than one would think looking at the numbers.

+1 on what Ducpainter said about the 4V and the 2V too.

I've never ridden a 4v, but I have ridden a 625 SMC and an M900 back to back.  [evil]

Full throttle on the KTM feels like my arms are going to rip out, but full throttle on the M900 feels like a freight train pushing me from behind.
Either bike will be butter smooth and comparatively vibe free after riding the 625 SMC.  [laugh]

That said, I love both bikes.
Good luck on finding the right Duc for you.

So do high-compression pistons along with 14/41 gearing.   ;D

My first Monster was a M800S.i.e. (2v) Termis, ECU and open airbox.
My current Monster is a stock S4 (4v)

After the 2v the 4v was a disappointing is some areas. The 2v pulled hard throughout the rev range. The 4v only started pulling as hard from 6000 rpm.
However for me the 4v is the better engine. The 2v was lumpy and grumpy below 4000 rpm, the 4v below 2500 rpm.
Most of my riding is commuting so I prefer the 4v as its easier to ride. If I was to get a fun bike then I'd get the new 1100  :)

I wish i waited to get the S4R. but its a gas hog. Ive gotten 140miles to the tank at best on straight super slabbing, it would be a long shot to even make it past 110 on the S4R so ive heard.

Thats about right 100-115 before the fuel light. I didn't even consider fuel consumption when I bought my S4R, that not why I got it.

Fuel consumption what? That's 100 - 115mi of glorious Desmo x 8 high rate acceleration!  I'm with you on this one Capo.  ;D

That's not all that different from what I used to get on my S2R800, and currently get on my DS1000 motored bike as long as you say "when the light comes on".  So with that in mind, it's not that bad at all.

thats MAX fuel range though.

From the many people who ride for fun, they are at the 75miles per tank mark. 110 if they are doing straight 100% superslabbing. Its really limited range and annoying to have to refill that often when you want to have fun. My DS1000 when i ride for fun will hit ~100 before the light goes on. when i super slab, it wont turn on till ~120.
