But I've still got 14 and I'm loving it.  [moto]

I recently got a 14T sprocket and killed my db killers. The bike is running a lot better IMO.

It (696) was not very tractable in stock form. It sputtered away from a stop and required too much clutch to get going and too high of a speed to run smoothly. I can now ride around in a parking lot without looking like a hooligan *and* still be in gear. Of course, now I sound like a hooligan but at least I don't look like one.

Thanks to removing the baffles, it also instantly became easier to blip and I can crack the throttle open a lot more smoothly and easily.

it's amazing what a little gearing can do, eh?   [thumbsup]

Ya, same for the streetfighter. At 80mph it was lugging in top gear. I went up two in the rear, and I may end up going up 4.

did the same shortly after I bought my 800 a month ago and it made a huge improvement.....FWIW just returned from a 700 mile norcal ride this weekend and the 14t worked great on everything from gravel roads at 25mph to I5 at 80mph

I got a noob question, what happens when you loose a tooth?  [coffee]
what does it change in terms of RPM? I have a S2R and I still got all my teeth

It will bump it up about 250-500 rpm of where its at now. No more slipping the clutch to 25mph when taking off from a stop.

It depends... Sometimes it's quite bad:

In mathematical terms, it's 15/14 or just over 7%, so if you're now cruising at 3500rpm, with a 14t front youd be spinning 3750 at the same speed.

That doesn't come _close_ to telling you the whole story though - the difference in "rideability" at low speed is _significant_ - it'll feel noticeably faster off the line, it'll be noticeably easier to ride down around walking/running pace. Some people don't like the extra rpms at speed and feel the bike's a little too "buzzy". A few people report problems with undue chain slider wear on the top of the swingarm - mostly but not exclusively on single sided swingarm bikes, But _most_ people thing a 14t front sprocket if the single best value-for-money mod you can do to a Monster.

Really? You never find yourself working the clutch lever? Must be nice. I find myself needing the walking speed range at least once per ride.

Interestingly though, your position seems to come in the way of speed and this mod provides both better acceleration and more street usability. The only real sacrifice is highway usability and even then, it's not major. Instead of suggesting it's not for you because you never ride slowly, you should say it's not for you because like to relax on the highway. ;)

TCK!

6th gear on the freeway is way too fast.
