Just finished 30 days of trying out a paleo diet and doing Crossfit 4 days a week.  No idea if I've lost any weight, but I'm much leaner than when I started.  Going to do another 30 days of paleo, only hopefully more strict this time around.  Class just started, so I'm not too hopeful.

The only thing I really miss on this diet is beer.  Everything else - bread, grains, sugars - I'm happy to do without.  Luckily, I found a margarita recipe that fills the gap nicely.  The hardest part, other than the lack of beer, is planning ahead a week at a time for things like lunches and breakfasts at the office.  Right now I've got 14# of pork butt on the grill at 350F for 6 hours.  It'll take various forms for lunches and dinners throughout the week.

so have a beer then.

While the "paleo diet", is a very healthy diet, the so called "science" behind it is staggeringly retarded. The paleo diet is also not original in any way and has been around in many different forms for about a hundred years or so.

shit....there I go getting too serious again........disregard what I say and stick with the margaritas.....they are infinitely more healthy than beer [roll]

You are a stronger person than I! I miss sugar and bread too much, but that pork sounds good, enjoy it (maybe with a beer? just one, just to see how it tastes)

Agreed on the science aspect, but I don't really care about that.  More concerned with the results it provides, at least in the short term.

Here's the recipe for the NorCal Margarita:

  • Juice (and pulp) of one lime
  • 2-3oz of tequila
  • 2-3oz of sparkling water

For the sparkling water, I prefer this stuff since I can get it at Costco: http://www.crystalgeyser.com/smw/cgw_smw.html

Ducati is the pretty girl that can't walk in heels without stumbling. I still love her.

2 oz. of tequila will be about the same calories as a bottle of beer and 3oz. would be more.

my point being, results wise, your margarita recipe or a beer will have the same effect on your diet.

There actually is some good research suggesting a drink or two a couple times a week will actually help fat loss goals while dieting and not halt progress as most dieticians commonly espouse.

+1 on that, but only if the drinking is consistent vs binge (like 1 a night or 3 a week vs waiting until sunday football day and having 7)

When working out, staying motivated is a huge key to long-term success. I've found that it helps to work out with friends.

3 miles of running after contemplating for 3 hours how much I dislike it.  I'm hungry now.  Really hungry.  Going to have a beer because there is no butter for popcorn.

Running is best done and is most inspired,

when one is being chased by enraged numbers of life forms

greater than can be dealt with singly

I regard it to be in the same class of activities as "prayer"

which is a more dubious pursuit of last recourse

employed when all other options have failed

but prayer, like running, is also at its most inspired and authentic

when one realizes all other options have failed

prayer unaccompanied by the proper octave of desperation

has the aroma of piety to it

which leads us to the subject of running while simultaneously praying

a practice I have not been unacquainted with

in younger years

I see little discernible difference between a "Runner's High" and a "Perp's Elation"   ;D

I've never run long or far enough to experience any such "high".    [roll]

Can one wear earbuds/ipod during a tri?  I really can't imagine running w/o
and being forced to listen to my heavy breathing (not to mention not having
my motivating tunes) that reminds me of the tennis pro whose grunts can
be heard for miles when she hits the ball.

I've used them for the run on the last 3 tri's that I did.   Some use them on the bike too, but it was too much of a hassle for me.  They've actually come out with a waterproof iPod/earbud combo for those who need their tunes while swimming!   [roll]

Good luck this weekend.  Bacon is great for fuel during the race... The salt replaces lost electrolytes well...   [evil]

185!!!  With clothes on.   ;D

I started at 198lbs.   I'll weigh myself tonight with minimal clothing.  That should put me down past the 14lb mark.

Now, to reach my secondary goal of 180lbs.

The Bacon Diet works!!!   :D
